I heard an interesting take that has me a bit concerned about this film.
Basically, if you want to see Promentius 2, you won't be disappointed. If you want to see an Alien movie, you will be...

Ridley just said today he's "not letting go" of the franchise. Fuck. Another Lucasian debacle in the making.

Ok, saw it today.
You know how Prometheus had that really upbeat ending?
Well, it was upbeat compared to this one, anyway. And it really throws off the connecting dots between these movies and how we got to the original Alien movie. Like.... now it's all WHO KNOWS.
Are we at the point where we can say Ridley is pulling his own prequels disaster ala Lucas?

"Alien" in 1979 had all these weird, unanswered questions. That was neat.
Now in 2017 we have these prequels that seem to take 1979... completely out of the story. It isn't neat. Hopefully the next 2 movies get things back on track, but yeah, I could see these being Lucasesque in their failure.
Like Lucas, he helped create something amazing, but it was time to step aside and let other people take it forward.

Finally saw it.
As a stand alone movie, this would be meh. As part of a franchise, this is complete trash.
I posted that comic prior to ever seeing the film, forgot about it, and while watching this I kept thinking, "This movie only works because the people are absolute morons and don't follow the most basic procedures and common sense."
Did we really need to make the "Alien" a human creation? Fuck you.
Was anyone surprised by "the twist" at the end?
Why would Walter, a machine with zero emotions, hesitate in eliminating David? That made no fucking sense.
Please walk away from this franchise Mr. Scott.

Agreed. I'm usually pretty tolerant of movies just being fun or entertaining. This was pretty bad. The original Alien told a story about an alien species with a side plot about the AI of a hobbit android. It feels like these two prequel movies are trying to tell a story about the dangers of AI, and are just using the alien origin plot device (poorly) as a side plot.
