Max Landis doesn't get why it bombed.

Off the top of my head? The marketing sucked. I assume the movie sucked too since it's a late August release.

Plus, your stars are Jesse Eisenberg and Kirsten Stewart.

Also, your "well reviewed" movie is currently rocking a 6.5 on IMDB.

In what looks like a fucking spy action movie. Fucking really? His dad needs to have a chat with him. Granted, his dad got an actor and a couple illegal child actors killed, but when his movies weren't mired in wrongful death lawsuits, they were entertaining.

As soon as I heard, "It's like Pineapple Express meets Jason Bourne," they lost me. Hated PE.

PE felt overhyped. It was very eh.

Literally the only thing I had read about the movie was about how those two "wanted to work together again."

Pineapple Express did suck pretty hard.

But Leisher loved it.

That may be why I disliked it. By the time I got around to it it was way up on a pedestal. A pedestal of suck.

I do not remember it well enough to defend my review.

To be fair, I've also posted some tremendous movies that you might never have found.

Sure, Public Enemy was awesome. Pineapple Express was not. Never have I watched a Cheech and Chong movie and thought, "You know what this is missing? Some shitty, slo-mo fight sequences from a couple of stoners who look like they'd be winded putting on trunks to get ready to box." We also have to have some bullshit subplot about Seth trying to decide if the supermodel-looking high school chick he's banging is the right one for him.

Not as incredibly bad as I thought it would be, but not great either.

Stewart was actually passable, but that's mainly because Eisenberg is chewing up the scenery throughout the movie. Nothing about him screams action hero. Maybe that was the point, but it really doesn't work here. It especially doesn't work when you consider one of the film's biggest plot points (hint: It's about the girl).

What really sucks though is the story. It's both cliche and terribly stupid, mainly because of how dumb and realistic the baddies act.

The brightest spot of the movie is Walton Goggins. His role is really small, but he steals an important scene.

You can skip it, but if you must see it, do so for free.

Saw it for free, and I liked it better than I thought I would. It is more "Jason Bourne except if he was brainwashed to be a burnout" then it was like Pineapple Express. And for that reason I liked it OK.
