Worst decision ever: casting Sam Jackson.

Why's that? I like him in the role.

Worst decision ever: casting Sam Jackson.

To be fair, it was an artist's fault. When Marvel made their "Ultimate" universe, one of the artist's re-imagined Nick Fury to look like Sam Jackson. Previously, he was an older white guy with an eye patch.

Anyway, I'm starting to think Sam Jackson is a bad casting choice period.

If you watch, he's phoning in a lot of his work. He's become a parody of himself.

Sam has a cool schtick, but he's not Denzel or Morgan. He doesn't have their acting chops or credibility in somewhat serious roles.

"Like the Pharaohs of old."

"Why do I get the sense that he is the only one who wants to be here?"

SPOILER at this link.

Agent Coulson's return for the show is apparently leaked, and it's pretty much something I said way back when The Avengers first hit.

The only thing I missed was the part that will be a running gag.

I can see that. Not in a "we planned this" sort of way, but in that after Phil said "that the heroes needed something to avenge" and Fury thought, "yeah, they do" and decided off the cuff that Phil was now dead for awhile, even if he wasn't.

When the movie hit theaters, I commented that only Thor saw him get hurt, but I don't remember him checking his vitals. Later Fury just announces to The Avengers that Coulson is dead, but nobody ever sees the body.

It all seemed far too convenient, and when he pulled out the cards with blood on them so nonchalantly, that was the biggest clue, imho, that I was onto something.

I mean, the guy even made a pseudo joke about it to Maria Hill.

The Rock wants to be Luke Cage.

I could not agree more, and if Marvel doesn't make this move, they'd be missing a huge opportunity.

The Rock is the kind of guy who doesn't mind taking a backseat to other actors, doing TV shows, etc. You could get big ratings spikes from episodes of the TV show where he appears, and use him as another link between the show and the movies, ala Agent Coulston.

Damn, that WOULD be pretty cool.

I thought it was decent. I'm not thrilled with all the casting choices though, nor am I digging the hinting they're doing that Coulston is an LMD.

Coulston is awesome, as are Fitz and Simmons. I'm meh on Ming-Na Wen so far.

I do not like the big guy they have as their field op. I think he has zero charisma. They REALLY needed to reach out to Jeffrey Donovan for this role or someone like him. This guy might as well be a cardboard cutout.

The other potential problem is Skye. You can tell she's going to be the "heart" of the team. Right now I don't love her or hate her, but she has potential to be very annoying.

Thing is, that spoiler is wrong.

More spoilers.

Coulson SAYS that is the story... but then 2 other characters, who know, overhear Coulson telling the story and say, "Does he actually still believe that?"

That spoiler seems dead on to me...

I'm telling you, I fear they're going to make him an LMD. I hold out hope that something else will turn out to be the truth. Maybe they can use Coulson as a way of introducing Dr. Strange?

None of those. The key elements are that Coulson thinks his death was faked, but that is not true and the truth is being kept from him. But it's something that is not all that secret because some of those under his command know the truth.

I'm guessing he really did die, but then he came back to life later because he himself is a superhero and that's his power. But he doesn't know it, and for some reason he can't know it. Not because it's a secret, but just because of the nature of his power or who he is leads to his blocking out the knowledge as a side effect. That way others could know it and even talk about it near him but he'd still not know the truth about his prior death(s).

And really, if you are going to be a likeable character on a Joss Whedon show, the ability to come back to life would be darn handy to have.
