I knew about Clerks 3 for a while now. Mallrats 2 is the new news.

Mallrats is one of the most underrated comedies ever, imho. It's going to be hard for him to catch lightning in a bottle twice. Especially without the ignorance of youth.

Especially with malls going out of business everywhere.

Now it'll be with real rats in an abandoned mall.

Mallrats 2, the TV series.
The Mallrats TV series is expected to have 10 episodes, and be filmed in Exton, Pennsylvania, including at the Exton Square Mall, which Smith touted as the sequel’s mall of choice in September on Facebook. Smith did not confirm which actors from the original would be reprising roles in the TV sequel, but the Clerks creator has been leaving hints all over social media. In two separate photos he posted on his personal Twitter account weeks after finishing the Mallrats sequel’s script last year, Smith, Michael Rooker, Jason Mewes, Stan Lee and Shannen Doherty all confirmed to being committed to doing the sequel.
Something tells me Jason London's not doing anything at the moment.

I've heard he has everyone back on board except Affleck. I wonder if he and Ben will patch up their relationship now that Garner, who hated Smith, is out of the picture?

Smith talked about this whole Mallrats 2 thing on this week's Hollywood Babble-On podcast. He said he was originally told he could get the rights to the name, so he wrote the script. Then later Universal explained they've never given up one of their properties so they'd either have to make the movie or do it with Smith. That wasn't a deal killer, but everything changed when he directed that episode of The Flash. First, he got the deal to make Buckaroo Bonsai into a series, and then decided Mallrats would work that way too and talked Universal into it.

He said they have offers from three different channels to air it. No word yet on who will win the bidding war.

Speculation is that Jeff Anderson (Randall) is the one opting out of returning. If true, that would be a shitty move considering Smith wrote Clerks III based on Anderson originally committing. However, Anderson has moved to the mountains and apparently lives at the whim of his daughter.

Mallrats 2 is on Smith. No idea why he wanted to make it into a TV series. He, legit, had every original cast member locked up except Affleck. If he can't get Netflix or Hulu or Amazon to make it, the script must suck.

He did the same thing with his hockey movie. It became a series, and he had some interest, but I haven't even heard him talk about that in years.

Haven't heard him discuss the Buckaroo Bonzai reboot lately either.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is cool IF he gets back to his humor and stops trying to make movies that are nods to all his podcasts. Maybe it'll give us another scene like this:

I frequently say "No YOU are the ones who are ball lickers!" out in public, and no one ever gets it.
