I never read the book this is based on, but this movie screams Young Adult/Chick Lit.

Well, not so much chick lit, but in the middle of everything else we had WAY more "adolescent girl deals with these funny feelings for a boy for the first time" than we had in Hunger Games. The line, "I want to take it slow" was actually uttered in this movie. I think a lot of the success of HG is that they didn't force a bunch of teen girl angst on the audience. This movie did a little.

Anyway, post apoc, and civ is reorganized along very fascist factions.... people have their set positions in life, and free thinking is very discouraged to the point of death. But then this girl is a free spirit, and even chooses to get a soaring bird as a tat which isn't symbolic at all. People just don't understand her, and they are all against her.

This is a 2.5 hour movie. They really needed to chop a lot out of the training period, get it under 2. It just wasn't entertaining enough for a grown-ass man for how long it was. My wife liked it, though.

Not great or good, Not terrible though. Came on the tube while I was on vacation and it was better than anything else on.

Later movies that explore what is outside the city have a better chance of being better, you think?
