Yep.

New characters, location, and story.

Kind of cool as Kirkman won't have to worry at all about people who have read the book being bored, spoiling things, or complaining if things aren't exactly like the book.

If it is just another story about a ragtag group of survivors, i think that'd suck. If they give it a new angle.... military command/control, some health workers trying to find a cure, something like that, it might be interesting.

We keep seeing helicopters flying.... who is in them?

First of all, you know there's going to be a crossover at some point. Guaranteed.

Secondly, they could go any way they wanted with this new series. I think it has to be different enough that it isn't just another group of survivors. I think it'd be interesting to see various stories, ala World War Z (the book, not the movie).

This will contain some spoilers for The Walking Dead.

I disagree. It might be better than the original. Keep in mind that while Kirkman can do what he wants with Rick and company, he can't.

They're from an existing property, and he might alienate the core audience that loves the books.

Having a new crew to deal with, he could do whatever he wants without fear of backlash for not sticking to an existing story line or for treating an established character incorrectly.

It'll also help him write better roles for actors/actresses who step up and the audience loves, ala Daryl. And cut back on roles for characters people despise (Andrea) or actors who leave the show willingly despite playing someone who should have lasted a lot longer (Dale).

As for the helicopters, I only remember one and didn't it crash? I thought that was resolved in Woodbury. That's where it was resolved in the book.

Also, he could tie the new group into this group very easily. There's a story line in the books that can see the groups interact. I don't know how it turns out yet, but I'm sure after a season long crossover, they could go on their own paths again...?

Rick saw a helo over Atlanta season 1... there was another helo that flew over some city (probably Atlanta) toward that farm where they spent a whole season, and the zombies followed it and that is what caused the farm to get overrun.

Not sure about the helo from S1. The one in S2 was the one that went to Woodsbury...right?

I don't remember ANY helos in woodsbury... that's the town the Governor ran, right? No memory of aircraft.

I like how non-walking dead threads now contain walking dead spoilers!! It's going to get to the point where NO thread is safe to read!!

But luckily, I get more enjoyment from complaining about spoilers than watching an unspoiled event. So, at least there is that.
