Synopsis:
Jeff Bridges is sent to buy out a gym for a real estate company. Problem is a fiddle-playing version of Conan works out there and his boss isn't looking to sell.
Review:
Jeff Bridges takes his goddamn sweet time to buy this gym off because he's got (deceased) daddy issues and was forced into the real estate game. He takes so long getting to know Conan and banging Sally Field that his partners decide to up the time table on their own. His character, in spite of being the main protagonist, is also clearly the most annoying motherfucker in the film as he oscillates between the blue- and white-collar worlds. Then again, that might be the vibe he was trying for. Anyhow, the end of the film gets absurd (although it's only a whitewashing of the book's ending -- depressing and absurd), but since it was the '70s there were probably a lot of drugs around, so I can see how everyone thought it was a great way to shoot the scene.
Verdict:
Worth checking out, if only to remember there was a time when the Governator took roles that had more than half a dimension.
