Sadly, they do.
Sadly they do, when the government weaponizes the justice system.. Good riddance Biden!

It was a good runPresident Donald Trump reiterated that the United States is going to place 25% tariff on goods imported from Canada and Mexico while signing executive actions from the Oval Office on Thursday.
SCOTUS said they were unconstitutional, so no they didn't.GORDON wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 8:47 pm And then I realized... that wasn't Biden. It's unspoken that his staff has been in charge for X amount of time.... and I suspect some of them had student loan debt, so student loans got paid by Uncle Sugar.
I'm willing to let it play out. I've heard enough people discuss the tariffs and declare the sky is falling and enough say its fine that I don't think anyone actually knows. I get the argument against them, but I also know that our goods face massive tariffs throughout the world and somehow nobody cares. I think in those instances, let's level the playing field. I don't think we should accept a deal of "We're going to sell our product in your country, but if you try to sell yours here it's a 150% tariff. Oh, and make sure you keep sending aid checks. Thanks!"TheCatt wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 9:38 pmTheCatt wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 9:33 pm Overall, the economy's been great for 16 straight years. I know a person who had 20 year old loans forgiven, and they weren't reinstated.
Problem is............... the main entity tariffs hurt are American consumers. The idea is that they make imported goods cost more at wholesale/retail, and that makes the consumer look for a cheaper product that is supposedly made in America, and not subject to import tariffs. If it takes a year, or never, for an American factory to tool up and start making car parts, then just too darn bad, American consumer.Leisher wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:11 am I'm willing to let it play out. We have a trade agreement with Canada and Mexico that prohibits any such behavior.Leisher wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:11 am I don't think we should accept a deal of "We're going to sell our product in your country, but if you try to sell yours here it's a 150% tariff. Don't worry, Trump will replace all your taxes with these tariffs!GORDON wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 5:10 am If that tariff money got split up amongst us and we got a check every year, that would be one thing. But George W Bush isn't in charge any more and we won't be seeing surplus checks.
And any such tariffs will be shot down in court if the trade agreement blocks it.TheCatt wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 8:08 am We have a trade agreement with Canada and Mexico that prohibits any such behavior.
I have lots of thoughts on this, but I'm putting a pin in it for now. Too busy today.GORDON wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 5:10 am Problem is............... the main entity tariffs hurt are American consumers. If I were them, I'd set aside the money as if I was still paying it and earn interest on it. SCOTUS specifically told the Biden he couldn't do this, but he did anyway. (What do you call it when a leader ignores the law?)GORDON wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 5:07 am I know a person who had 20 year old loans forgiven, and they weren't reinstated.
