Ten states with the worst old geezers behind the wheel.
Six of the most dangerous states for mature drivers do not have driving rules for seniors: Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Washington and Delaware.
Explains why my desire to murder other people on the road around my place has skyrocketed. Too many fucking retirees.

There needs to be a way/app to tag bad drivers. People who get 50 tags get their shit scrutinized by the DMV.

Nah. Doesn't work. I've thought about traffic reforms a shitload. You need solid verification and you can't always see the plates of the douchebag a mile up the road, holding up the left lane because he wants to save gas doing 45mph but doesn't possess the steely nerves required for dealing with merging traffic in the right lane. If self-driving cars ever become the norm, expect to find a lot of people hacking the equivalent of the car's blackbox to make it look like shit was someone else's fault. If you think rooting a phone is fun, just wait. The only way it's even remotely possible is if the CB craze comes back.

I had the idea for what "Waze" does back about 1999, I just couldn't figure out how you'd get individual cars reporting their road conditions to each other before smart phones became ubiquitous.

I was wondering if each car could have an automatic drone that could go up a couple hundred feet and show you what traffic was doing a mile ahead.... before personal drones became popular. I was a pretty clever guy in my early 30's.

And now I think cars are soon going to be needing to be communicating with each other automatically to improve driver safety, not even taking self-driving cars into consideration.... so as soon as you can see traffic on your dashboard touchscreen, and there is a car flashing red because it is doing some non-intuitive shit, you can press the "tag this car" button and it gets reported. Fuck, if it gets a hundred tags in 5 minutes, it pulls itself over and calls the police on you for a breathalyzer.

Also I don't know why cars need their own computers when all they need is a docking station to plug in your own more powerful computer that you already carry around everywhere you go.

No. Multiple stupid, slow, old people do not get to ruin my driving record. If everyone around you is driving like a moron, going against the grain is usually good.

Every motherfucking thing possible is controlled by customized software and hardware. It's theoretically doable now, but your laptop would have to have all that specialized software a car expects plus the gear to interface with and act as the on-board machine.

Old people can't figure out how to use the computer.

Do not underestimate their ability to make the existence of the still living a hellish one.

Psss, you think I have that problem?

I believe I brought up the problem of old people driving and why it'll never be resolved years ago.

They vote. End of story.

No candidate is going to campaign against the elder because they, literally, have nowhere else to be on election day.

I think a "fuck the elderly!" drive might actually get the young people out to vote.

We hate old people.

Back in 2001 or so I came up with this idea, eBay style feedback for other drivers.

But making things happen is the hard part.

Yeah... the elderly are usually pretty on-the-ball about embracing strange, new technology.

I'm saying that the rest of us will get self driving cars which will be smart enough to deal with them.

Until the government forces everyone to get self-driving cars.

Self-driving cars are interesting.

What will win out?

Freedom and the insurance industry or governmental overreach of power and the fear of "safety".

In the long run it'll probably come down to things like changing speed laws so that self-driving cars can go any speed the automated system deems safe while manually driven cars have to stick to speed limits. Not too long after that most hold-outs will convert.

I'll find a back alley mechanic to jailbreak that engine governor shit.

No, I mean in terms of law, not engine governors.

Your self-driving car decides 150 mph is safe? Fine, no worries. You go over the 55 mph speed limit in your manual car? Sorry, ticket time. That's what I expect will happen.

I'm willing to escalate that war to the level of carrying a personal ECM device to fuck with whatever surveillance they'd like to attempt.
