Archeage is a weird game. But the customization options are pretty cool. Also piracy.

Here's my sail:

I'm not really digging the farming system too much. I mean, it's cool-ish, but it has some flaws.

I don't like how small the plots are that you're given. It's also stupid that they're squares with a scarecrow right in the middle which creates an area you can't put anything down. On top of that, everything you place is in a circle. That means you can never truly be perfectly efficient running your farm. You'll always have wasted space.

There are certain things you can't even plant on the garden because the scarecrow blocks the space.

They should have used squares for everything so it's easier to use your space efficiently and plan for how much you need to buy on runs to the seed/livestock merchants.

Plus, I really have no idea what the hell I should be raising/planting. Last night I grew 40 ducks and butchered them all. I grew 40 wheat to produce grain to feed them, but they grew just fine without water or food. That I appreciated because it avoids insane levels of micromanagement. So I've got a bunch of butchered duck tits and wheat. What should I do with them? If they're truly not needed to feed animals or people, why are they in the game?

I do think a LOT of the stuff you can grow is variety just for variety, but serves no actual purpose.

Right now I'm growing pines on my farm and 4 apple trees in my garden. Still have lots of leftover wasted space that I'm not sure what to do with.

So if you have suggestions...

Last night I also saw two regions become peaceful that are typically always at war. So I went there and found a bunch of new missions to run. Even got half a set of leather that's better than my current set.

I'm out tonight as I'm working all night. I might be on to do farming, but the PC I'll be on isn't good enough to do battle.

Thursday night I'm going to try and find the other half of this new leather set. I'm curious to see how it compares to the next set Stranger can craft.

If you feed the ducks they will produce feathers which you need to craft some things or they will give more meat when butchered. So feeding is not mandatory but it helps. All the
random stuff you can grow will be used in some craft or another. Key is growing the stuff in the current hot item being crafted. That will have the highest demand. Early game it's wood because everyone is making farms and houses. It's also oloves because you need them for the large scarecrow. Stranger found pelts to be hot and even that is cooling down a bit. I never know what to grow either. When in doubt, I do aspens. Right now I'm also doing pines trying for some thunder struck wood.

Crafting is the best way to earn money, wood is still strong and sells for good money, so if you're not concerend about what profession you wanna specialize in you can just look for something that will make you money. Also, i pretty much leveled up from just farming and crafting since level 15 or so, hardly have done any questing since then. You can get alot of XP from crafting, thats one of the reasons i like crafting equipment so much. It costs about 100xp to make a first level piece of gear, but i get SOOO much XP for doing it.

I'm curious to see how it compares to the next set Stranger can craft.

You gotta remember that all armors offer different stats, some may have strength as an added bonus, others dexterity, some may just offer a better defense or magic resist. The first set that i crafted may have had a slightly lower defense rating, but the complete set offers added attack speed and a really high critical damage bonus. So its all about what kind of armor you're looking for. But i do know for a fact that the quests for armors will eventually dry up, prolly at level 50 and there will be no way to get better armor than by crafting it or buying it off the AH from someone who crafted it. But make no mistake, the highest level of any gear in the game, be it swords, shields, bows, armors, are all crafted.

Also, to craft that really high level gear, your proficiency in that particular trade needs to be really high. So hence, i grow turkeys and pigs to get the pelts to turn into leather so i can craft leather goods to raise my leatherworking proficiency so i can craft higher and higher level gear. All while earning gold and XP along the way.

Thats why i need a farm. Find your niche and you will see why farming is important.

Scooty asked me how to get those pics on the sails yesterday and i didn't know. So now that two of you have done it, what does it take and how much does it cost to do?

Yeah, I know all of that. That stuff is very basic in MMOs ever since they were introduced in...oh what's the name of that game? Two letters... OU? :D

What I'm getting at in my post is:
1. What should I be farming? I want gold to pay for my farm, and hopefully make me enough money to buy my patron status. (Although, it's not as realistic a goal as their marketing indicated it would be.) Also, I get selling the hot item, but what's the easiest way to look to see what's the hot item?
2. If others are working on crafts and need materials, I'd be happy to grow for them, but would hope for some payback to achieve the aforementioned goals. And I do have room to throw down some turkeys(?) so if you want me to raise some, give me the procedure. Getting your crafting leveled up with pay me back in the end.
3. In terms of armor, if the set I had was better than the one you crafted (it was), then how will this new set compare to your second level of leather? That's what I was getting at. I want to see what level you have to get your sets up to before you finally pass what's available via quests.

No idea how to find the next hot thing. I've always leeched off of other people's success. :-) Someone says "This is selling for a lot right now", so I make This. I have noticed stone continuing to go up. It's up to 30s each now. That's up from 25 about a week ago. I think at this point, people want to finish their larger houses and they take a lot of bricks. I'm going to stop with turkeys and save my LP for mining. I have about 70 gold now, so I'm also going to switch back to grinding alchemy. I really want to be able to make some of those stronger heal/mana potions.

There's so much to this game, I have no idea how to find good things to sell. One night, Troy said "Beds are selling at a huge mark up". Beds. I would have never thought to check the prices of Beds. So, unfortunately, I keep just missing the hottest items. By the time I find out, so did everyone else, and the market floods as I enter it.

Shipwreck locations off cinderstone:

I believe there are treasure chests down there. Maybe monsters too.

Also, are thunderstruck LOGS going for 200g a piece? Because I think you get more than one from a tree(like 3?). That's crazy.

No aqua farm for me.

About your bear. Turns out, weakened is just the state he's in after being harvested. Also noticed he's a male. All other livestock in the area are female. I think you got the rare male that will mate by nearby females. Want me to put more bears on your farm and see if you can make babies?

More I look, the more valuable mining is becoming. Bricks are up to 30s each and silver ore is up to 5s each. Those are up from 25 and 1.1 last week.

Mining is labor point hungry, but produces a lot. In about 20 minutes, you burn 1k LP and have pulled out about 200 iron and stone. about 20 other stuff (copper, silver, gold, archeum, etc).

That's 20 gold in stone and 1.4 gold in iron. The rest is random.

And, what is the long term profitability of crafting? Right now, everything crafts for a very small mark up above the materials it takes to make them. So, unless you plan to farm your own resources, you really aren't profiting. And, it will take a LOT of work, both farming plants and farming spawn for loot, to get all the high level materials you need to make the stuff. Plus, everyone can craft. You have multiple characters in one. You have your main PvP combat fighter as well as your main crafting ult. In one character because you can do both. So, is there even going to be a shortage of items? And with everyone being their own crafter, there will be a high demand for materials. So, is farming spawn for higher level materials the best way to spend your time in game?

Second time in three days that ArcheAge has been down the majority of the day for updates.

Annoying, but it's good to see they're actively working on it.

From reddit:
Polar bear breeder ( and General husbandry enthusiast) here, just thought I'd share info for misinformed people or people just spouting things they don't know.
Be realistic when it comes to polar bears. You're not just going to get a male bear your first cub. (Though its not impossible. )
Lets say you do get a male...
In order to breed, your male bear has to be in the 'Male Polar Bear Stud' phase. Which you don't find out until the timer hits 0. This is a rng thing... its rare to get a male, rare for him to go 'Stud'.
Lets say he is now in stud mode..
Okay! You have 6 female bears around him. DO NOT feed or shear ANYTHING. Leave them as is and go straight to the male and activate the breeding. (Its a music note icon.) All surrounding females will now be In a recovering state and your male bear will be cooling off aswell.
Right, you have 6 females with breeding in process. Nice.
RNG strikes again... ( 3rd rng moment for breeding)
:;):
Good news, you are garenteed to get a battlepet practically. (Probably 6 battle pets, but lets continue theorizing...)
You grow your first cub... its the Mount!! shits pants congrats... which means you can now grow another for the battle pet and sell the other 4 cubs for profit!
but can't I just sell the mount?
No. The mount and battlepet are UNTRADABLE.
That's right.. you can only sell the baby cubs you got off the females...

Holy shit text wall! TLDR?
Polar bear breeding is rng heavy. But don't give up! I know I won't!!

Haha - unless you do.

I planted two bears next to your male.

What is RNG?

And fuck Trion for doing major updates with lots of down time during normal business hours instead of in the middle of the night like normal people.

I'm going to dump my labor into farming whenever i get on today.

I'll end up with fat stacks of ground grain. Everybody will get some.
