I've said it before, I'll say it again, I'd rather beat OSU than with the championship. EVERY season, for me, is measured by "who won the Michigan OSU game?". Some of my favorite seasons where when we sucked, but still managed to beat OSU and knocking them out of Rose Bowl consideration. That seemed to be a two way street through the early/mid 90's. . .
I'd rather be Big10 Champ than National, because it means we were better than OSU. The rest of the country/games don't matter. Beat OSU. That's it.
I will watch the other games, and of course hope we win, etc. But the entire season is "Did we beat OSU? Yes? Then it was a great season." Nothing else matters.
I'm the guy who says "Ya. We cheated. We shouldn't have the title still. 2020 counts as a loss to OSU. Beating OSU is the only thing that matters.". So, I'm just different.

I'd rather win it all than beat Duke/NC State. Every year.

It sounds like Cake has an inferiority complex.

Agree.
"But you never beat us!"
"Nobody cares. We're the champs. You're only focused on a single regular season game."

I wouldn't say that with the meaning you imply. It somehow makes us 'paper champs because we beat the champs?'. I'm saying it because that's what matters most!
"WE BEAT OSU!!!!"
"We won the national title? Oh, cool"
The only game that would be more important than the Michigan OSU game in November would be a Michigan OSU game in January.

And incidentally, such a thing was impossible for a several years because of that conference championship game.

Right, 98% of the people will be like "Damn, UNC won it all" while some stupid basement-dwelling twitter user will be like "We BeaAt UNc!!N11!"
(that was not a shot at cake, just a comment about twitter people)

Well, I'm not a twitter user. . .
My thing is that I don't use the winning/losing of that game as some part of a logical argument to support some delusional thought I might have about future events. (We beat you, so we are actually the champs)
If we beat OSU, and they become champs. I'm just happy we beat OSU, and it's a good season. Period. Not diminishing OSU's accomplishment or implying anything about our standings. We beat OSU. Period.
If we lose to OSU and become champs, I would say "The season sucked, but at least we are champs". As in, taking some solace in other events, not as a dis against OSU. And I want our coach fired.
Which do you pick:
1. Always lose to Michigan, but win every championship.
2. Always beat Michigan, but never win another championship.
I know you'll pick 1 because you value the championship more. I could not live in a world where we never beat OSU, regardless of successes. I would be a happy and content (elated, really) Michigan fan if we ALWAYS beat OSU, but never won another championship.

All day every day. It would be annoying, yes. But championships matter more.

Yep.
In related news, like I said,
greed is destroying sports.
Why not just let every team in? Why bother having a regular season? Is the NIT still around? If so, this just killed it unless they rebrand and expand to hold all the team that didn't make the big dance, which would be fewer than those that did.
