No point here. Just coincidental that this clip showed up in my X feed when we had been discussing charities. I remember the Kids Wish Network.
Everyone behind these "charities" deserves death.

Re: Elon Musk
But you said creating jobs was the best thing a charity could do?- They paid to solicitors $109 million
At any rate...
These orgs were shut down after FTC and multi-state actions in 2015. It was one of the largest charity fraud cases at the time

I know you're being cheeky, but yeah, job creation, while not technically charity, is the best thing someone can do to help others.TheCatt wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2026 8:55 am But you said creating jobs was the best thing a charity could do?
And yeah, I know they were shut down (I can read!), but those were just three examples I posted because they happened to appear in my timeline. There are numerous other examples of charities stealing or wasting money.
I truly think most people are good and would not steal outright...although they would ensure they're taken care of (proven in studies)...I do, however, think they're too trusting, too stupid, too optimistic, too unfocused, etc. especially if they're the charitable sort. Those are the people that are the easiest to take advantage of, and the proof is out there.

I agree, but there are a large number of people who cannot function in a normal work environment. Disabilities, physical + mental, etc. Do we drown them in the river?Leisher wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2026 9:46 am job creation, while not technically charity, is the best thing someone can do to help others.
There always will be. Which is what the audit + report cards and such are for.Leisher wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2026 9:46 am There are numerous other examples of charities stealing or wasting money.

What the fuck is wrong with you? Drowning is one of the worst ways to die. Just get them to look at something and put one in the back of their head.
Seriously though, the majority can/want to work. Sure, some accommodations might need to be made, but it can be done (EX: Lott Industries). For those who cannot, then yes, it becomes just a case of charity to support them throughout their lives.
Absolutely agree, but it's still extremely foolish to just throw massive sums of money at even the most reputable charities. You're from the world of IT, so as you know, you don't give access to everything to everyone because the temptation becomes too great.
