It's interesting how much social media has changed our perception of things.

I was in a webinar yesterday that was shot in such a way that I thought the first presenter was AI. Apparently, I wasn't alone as the moderator had to keep confirming the humanity of the presenters in the chat. It was the lighting. It made their skin look fake.

Yeah, I saw a picture in a photography group I'm in that was part of a photog's exhibit (supposedly), and it just looked like AI to me. Due to the weird lighting/color corrections, etc. But AI has to be based on something.

Congress is questioning Zuck and others about their obvious targeting of children and the addiction of social media.

At this point, I think severely limiting social media would be a net win for humanity.

The image below is in the HolUp Reddit forum. That is NOT a LGBTQ+ forum. Yet, I cannot find a single comment from a straight man or any negative comment. It's nothing but people saying things like:
-Real Question is how many drinks she needs to fuck me
-Cake is cake even if it has a candle
-Oh no, my prostate is getting blasted by a hot lady! Oh no, how awful.
-I'm very forgetful, she would have to remind me every morning and twice a night

Game changing ruling against Meta and YouTube.

TLDR: They ruled the social media companies were responsible for harm done to a child who used their sites.

Per the article, there are over 2000 similar cases already filed and waiting for their court date. I'd expect another couple thousand by the end of the month...

I do have an issue with this statement:

finding Meta 70% responsible for harm caused to the now 20-year-old plaintiff, and YouTube responsible for 30%.

I get that this is just for damages, but it just made me think that the real percentages should probably be 15% the girl, 40% society, 40% her parents, and 15% social media.

Parents should be keeping their kids off of social media, but society has made it basically mandatory. Every club, team, etc. that my kids join all have social media, and most use it to communicate. Ditto for many teachers.

The plaintiff was a minor at the time of the incidents outlined in her lawsuit. K.G.M. testified in court that her nearly nonstop use of social media caused or contributed to depression, anxiety and body dysmorphia. It “really affected my self-worth,” she said last month.

Speaking about her social media use, K.G.M. testified that she felt she wanted to constantly be on the platforms and feared missing out if she wasn't.

I really don't like this verdict. I thought she was abused by a man or something. This should be over-ruled on appeal.

Attorneys for Meta and YouTube have disputed claims brought by the plaintiff, arguing their platforms aren’t purposefully harmful and addictive.

Generally, I lean more on factors inside a person and their home as being responsible for outcomes than I would an outside source.

In this case, and ONLY because it is not a secret that these platforms are, in fact, designed to be addictive. If tobacco is responsible for addiction in their products, then social media can be responsible for addiction in theirs.

However, why did we, as a society, suddenly decide every kid needed a phone and they can be unsupervised on social media 24/7/365? Society and parents deserve some of the blame too. It's like we bought the cigarettes for the kids...
