He looks rather chagrined, like he got popped in the pooper again.

Even Jack's Joker was a touch off, so I'm mildly hopeful that Heath can nail at least the darker side of the Joker.

Yes, he smiles and laughs constantly, but he is truly an evil, sick fuck.

In The Killing Joke he tortured Commissioner Gordon then did the same to his daughter while making him watch. In the end he left her paralyzed.

In another story he tied the second Robin to a chair and beat him to death with a crowbar, laughing the whole time.

Joker is the guy other "villains" don't want to work with as they all think he's way too insane and dangerous.

Maybe, just maybe, with the darker tone of this Batman, that Joker can be shown?

I still think the key to anyone figuring out the Joker is in "Emperor Joker" where he gets virtually god-like powers. That & the time he sold his soul to a demon for a box of cigars.

From the look of the trailer I saw before IAL tonight, they are keeping the movie realistic and gritty instead of all Tim Burtoned up... and whatever LSD insanity the last 2 directors were smoking.

Nice marketing touch.

It will be continue to be updated to fill in the gap between the last film and the new one.

Great flick.

Heath Ledger did such a great Joker that I am now forgiving him for the gay (Not that there's anything wrong with that) cowboy movie.

I am also pleased with how they handled the multiple villains.

Best Batman ever.

Same here. Best Batman ever. Which is saying a lot because Batman Begins was awesome. Hell one of the best films I've ever seen.

I never want to see people die I feel bad for the families but at the end of Dark Knight I was bummed because we aren't going to get that joker again.

I wasn't a big Ledger fan, but he knocked it out of the park as the Joker.

Saw this pic, and felt as bad as I've ever felt about his death:

Finally watched this film over the weekend and after all the hype, I was kind of disappointed. I'm closer to Thib's "meh" than I am to everyone else gushing over the film.

Yes, Heath Ledger was great, but a lot of that credit has to go to the writers. Unlike in the original Batman the writers here made their Joker closer to the Joker in the comics. The closest Burton got was when the Joker shot Bob towards the end for no reason other than he was frustrated. Heath's dialogue here was particularly fantastic especially in painting the Joker as more than just a nutjob.

Just to be clear, I fully believe he deserved the Oscar.

As for the rest of the story, it was sort of weak. Batman, and especially Bruce Wayne, became backup characters. Dent took up waaaaaaaayyyyyyy too much screen time. The Joker is THE Batman villain and easily one of the best fictional characters ever. So instead of focusing the movie on him vs. Bats, they shoe horn Two Face in there?

This is Exhibit A when it comes to how Hollywood fucks up established properties. Stop putting 2 villains into a single film!!! This film would've made the same amount of money without Two Face. Sitting at poker Monday night and I asked folks about the film and heard the same thing from everyone, "good film, but too much Two-Face."

I also couldn't stand the Jim Gordon storyline as it made zero sense and there was no payoff. This was easily the weakest part of the film in terms of writing.

Although, Bruce Wayne's motivations towards Dent rank a close second. No man takes the law into his own hands in the way Wayne has only to claim another guy can do it alone via a completely corrupted system. That whole thing was ignorant.

Batman Begins was a much better Batman film than this one. However, this one gets more hype due to Ledger's performance AND death. Not to take anything away from Ledger, but too many people are turning blind eyes to this film's flaws and I think it's because of his death. He was amazing, the writers obviously lover writing for the character, and overall this was a good film, but it wasn't worthy of the massive, massive hype surrounding it. In fact, had Ledger not died, I believe this would not have surpassed Iron Man at the box office.

6 out of 10.

This is the best Batman film to date, IMO.

It's also the least interesting portrayal of Batman himself, IMO. It's all about Joker and Dent. Ledger was amazing, I think everyone agrees. Maybe I'm on my own about Dent, but I thought he was really well done as well. And I'm glad he was there, because whoever that was playing Batman wasn't interesting enough to carry the film without all the help he could get.
