I substitute honey for sugar when I drink hot tea.... can you substitute honey in anything that requires sugar?

I wonder if this is where the concept of "mead" came from. Honey instead of maltose.

I didn't care for mead when i tried some.

A lot of recipes that call for a tablespoon of sugar, I see where they say sugar or honey. So I suspect so. Might not be practical for things requiring a crap ton of sugar, but can't think of anything that would cause a problem.

Chicken nuggets, biscuits, strawberries, and as a syrup substitute for a buncha breakfast items

OMG, Troy just reminded me that I had a honey-chicken biscuit the other day and it might have been the best chicken biscuit I've had in my life.

Beasley's Chicken + Honey. I wish Rise would use Beasley's chicken for their ckn biscuits, because it was OMG good. Rise is a great donuts + biscuits place that is slowly trying to franchise across the US. They are coming to Allen, TX soon, hopefully to somewhere nearer to you someday.

Came home from visiting a couple across the state line and found the dogs had killed and begun eating on one of the neighbors' turkeys. They were very cool about it. This morning I took out a number of cardboard boxes and built a funeral pyre and gave the turkey a viking funeral. Smelled like the smoked turkey leg booth at the fair.

Large buck about the same size as the one I harvested three years ago was crossbowed to death Wednesday. Usually with does me and the wife or me and my dad will load them into the side by side and take them back to his place and hang them in the barn to field dress. Knowing from experience from the one three years ago, I knew I would have to field dress this one actually in the field. Also, my dad isn't getting around well enough to help as he once did. So after the field dressing I tried numerous ideas to get the guy loaded onto the 4 wheeler. Almost flipped the 4 wheeler over, but no luck. Ended up having to double my rope (broke twice pulling him) and drug him to the edge of the closest field and went and got the tractor with the front bucket and brought him back with that. Skinned him and got him back to my place. Removed the legs and neck and dropped them in the freezer (it was getting too warm for the meat to stay out) and went in to have lunch aroun 2:30 PM. Started on the processing (all ground as the big bucks are a bit gamey tasting for roasts or steaks) until the wife got home. She jumped in to help and we wrapped up around 9:30 PM. I was really amazed at how freaking sore I was from trying to manhandle the buck up onto the back of the 4 wheeler (epic fail in even attempting).

The chili I made the other day had bambi in it.

For the record, that hole in the gut was the exit wound. Entry went in the other side right at the lung. I heard a "thump" that sounded like the bolt hit the chest cavity, but then he ran a ways and stopped. Though I couldn't make him out through the foliage, I could see hit tail flicking. So then I was wondering if I really hit him. I lost track of him visually and waited about 8 minutes after that. I've always read that you want to give them time to bleed out as peacefully as possible. Two reasons; the adrenaline makes them taste even more gamey (so I've heard), but mostly you don't want their last few minutes in a blind panicked run getting really far from you where you're less likely to be able to find them.

I climbed down and found the bolt in the base of the tree behind where he was when I hit him. It was bright red with blood, so it looked like a lung hit to me. Never saw a blood trail or any blood on the ground until I found him. Obviously you can see a fair amount there.

My dad said his neck is gorged like that because he's in rut.

It tasted like gamey chicken. It was generally served (when I ate it) as square chunks, a couple of times with bone, the other time just skin + meat, with the skin pork rind/chicharron-like crispy.

It's sometimes served as a grilled whole, on a skewer/stick. It looks a lot like a big rat in those cases.

Lost a chicken a week ago or so. Seemed to be natural causes. Wasn't below freezing that night (if so, just below), and she was just down in the corner of the run curled up and dead. Tossed her in the woods and set up the trail cam to see what came to get her.





Going to set up a bucket trap set for the opossum and see about a fox set. Have done bucket sets before, but not a fox set. This should be fun! My dad said if the fox looked good he'd take it and have it mounted for his house.

Got.down to 3 last night. All.alive this morning but they aren't leaving the coop.

Looks like Vince has a chupacabra.

I hope so! If I trap one of those, worth WAY more than a fox.

Sub zero tonight, coldest they have been and no heat in the coop. We'll see.
