Oscar-nominated celebrities were urged on Wednesday to skip a $55,000 trip to Israel offered as part of an awards gift bag.
Two U.S.-based groups campaigning for an end to Israel's occupation of the Palestinian Territories made the plea in a full-page ad in the Los Angeles Times that appeared five days before the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday.
"#SkipTheTrip. Don't endorse Israeli apartheid," said the ad, sponsored by the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and Jewish Voice for Peace.

The U.S. does have a gift tax that has to be paid by the person/company that is giving the gift, yes. Not just for money, but also for fair market value on non-currency gifts.
The general rule is that any gift is a taxable gift. However, there are many exceptions to this rule. Generally, the following gifts are not taxable gifts.
1 Gifts that are not more than the annual exclusion for the calendar year. ($14,000 in 2016)
2 Tuition or medical expenses you pay for someone (the educational and medical exclusions).
3 Gifts to your spouse.
4 Gifts to a political organization for its use.
In addition to this, gifts to qualifying charities are deductible from the value of the gift(s) made.

They have 2 black people walking the red carpet iterviewing people. They got Morgan Freeman to do the voiceover about the ceremony. They showed a bunch of video of Whoopie Goldberg, Hally Berry, and a looong clip of Cuba Gooding Jr. winning their Oscars in the past.
I am totally fooled by this and I genuinely think that the Oscars are all about black peeps now.
