Hey look, FoxNews stole my line.

NEW YORK – The difference between “Fifty Shades of Grey’s” enigmatic heartthrob Christian Grey and Ariel Castro, the Cleveland man who imprisoned and sexually abused three women in his home, is a slick gray suit and a few million dollars.

Scooped by a minute.

Madonna slams the book.
“(It’s) maybe for someone who has never had sex before,” she said.
I"m not being mean or funny when I say, she'd know. She's fucked a LOT of people.
The main character does seem to be very mousey and "virgin-like", which matters as so many women who love the book describe her as "relateable".

Maybe she represents both the innocent princess and the slut that most women find relatable.... or want to. How many little girls get treated like a princess by daddy, then feel unworthy when they become sexual young women?
And face it, chicks love rich guys.

It must be nice to exist without being a slave to logic. What was it Robin Williams said? I'll try to paraphrase.
"All those suicide bombers who think there's a harem of virgins waiting for them in the afterlife, have they ever been with a virgin?"
I do enjoy how this book is somehow about feminism and empowerment, though. Just likeSpecies is about the dangers of genetic engineering run amok.
And face it, chicks love rich guys.
Then replace Mr. Grey with a broke dude who looks like Danny DeVito and lives in a cabin out in the woods. Should be just as empowering.

Which has been my point since long before the movie was announced.

We need to start a YouTube show called "What SNL Used to Be." I think we could get enough material for a few episodes.

Which is a bit funny, since 50 shaeds was written as Twilight fan fiction.

Is that for real? One awful franchise spawned another?

Yes. That is for real. 50 Shades started out as an awful fanfic posted somewhere online. And then they took it and published it. Apparently without bothering to edit it, either.

Yes, it was originally called Master of the Universe

I have somehow lost respect for 50 Shades based on this news, and I didn't even have any respect for this rape porn.

I can't lose respect for 50 Shades as I never had any.
What I lost respect for here is books. Just the whole concept of editors and publishers and bestseller lists. Words on paper have violated our trust as readers of books. Shame on them.

Oddly I have more respect for it. I guess because someone else made a crap-ton of money off a god-awful series that some real author made a crap-ton of money off of. it almost feels like a "sticking it to the man" story. Only filled with really bad literature and films.
Though the author's clinging to creative control kind of ruins it for me. I'd rather she said, "Meh... I don't care what you do with it. I've milked you for all I want out of it."
Then she'd be my hero.

Personally, I don't have anything against it... if someone can get rich off fan fiction, great. The fact that it turned my wife on to trashy shit-lit kind of bugs me, because now she is addicted to the unrealistic harlequin romance, cheap-high quality of it, and she stopped reading anything else that I would also read, and it is giving us fewer things in common.
This strikes me as the literary version of an indy musician making money off the internet, bypassing the music industry.

It's just so badly written, though. 50 Shades makes Twilight look like Shakespeare. Hell even the Harlequi Romance books blow 50 Shades out of the water in terms of quality. I can't respect that sort of shitty writing no matter how much it made.
50 Shades is to writing as the Crazy Frog is to music. Sure it sells a lot ... but why?!

I've never read a word of it, no opinion on the style.
