Buffy the Vampire Slayer

If you haven't seen Buffy, but you liked Firefly & Serenity and would like to see more of Joss Whedon's work, I have a recommendation. The whole series is pretty good once they get past the creaky first season or so, and there are many stories and episode arcs that are more interesting, but there is a single episode of Buffy that stands out on it's own as an excellent introduction to the quality, style, and tone of the series: Hush.

If you have Netflix get Disc 3 of Season 4 and watch the episode Hush. If you like it, then you'll probably like the rest of the series. If you don't, then you probably won't. It's a good litmus test that way.

I loved the one episode of Buffy where she was bouncing back and forth from the 'reality' of Sunnydale and the asylum. Hush was excellent as well. Anyone into comics and Whedon's wit will love 'Astonishing X-Men'. I just got back into comics and am hooked on the title.

Hush has excellent monsters. I liked the fairy tale theme. It's probably my third favorites.

That asylum one was very well done. It's my second favorite.

I hate to admit it, but Once More With Feeling is probably my favorite episode. A lot of important stuff comes out, yet they had the balls to reveal it all during the campiest episode of the season.
And the tunes get stuck in my head for days after seeing it.

I used to be a big collector through my teen years and into my early 20s. I pondered picking up a few titles here and there, but they're too expensive and they've really fucked up all the characters.

I hate this new "ultimates" crap. I've stood in Barnes and Noble looking at the comic rack wondering which reality is the official one and what direction the comic publishers are going.

Wolverine in his official X-Man uniform and the teenage skater face just isn't the Wovlerine I give a shit about. Ditto for the female Spiderman and the Spiderman that didn't experience Gwen Stacy's death.

If they brought back the X-Men as written by Claremont. I'd return. If they brought back Hitman, Blue Devil, or Deadpool, I'd ponder returning. If Jack of Hearts showed up somewhere I'd probably pick up that issue. Marvel needs to clean out it's warehouse of TKs in the X-Men universe too.

I love a good story and right now, I don't think either company is delivering them.

Mine, too. Probably because I vaguely like showtunes. But I figured Hush was a much more appropriate introduction to the series. :)

Willy Wonka and teh Chocolate Factory

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Well, the new one certainly goes in a different direction than the first. Much more oriented towards the book, I think, although I've not read it in over a decade so I can't be sure. Much creepier, too, but that's to be expected when Tim Burton and Johnny Depp work together on the same film. At first this new Wonka was a bit of a disappointment, but Depp's rendition of the character grew on me after a few minutes.

The Oompa Loompas are actually less creepy, but the songs they sing are sometimes rather more annoying.

I think I like both versions equally. It's just as well as they're different enough to be a bit hard to really compare fairly anyway.

UNC vs Duke game was exactly like the regular season game!
Exciting and fun, But Scoreless... only the ACC tournament gets the PKs.

I played Club and High School Ball with about half the starting UNC team. Justin Hughes, the keeper in the Orange who got cramps, was a friend of mine who played keeper for my club team for a loong time. A great memory of mine is scoring the go-ahead goal in the Quarterfinals for States against him in High School when he played for Wakefield.

It's really cool seeing friends and people you know playing at that level.

Oh and if Justin Hadn't gotten that groin injury, he would have saved more than one PK, he is just THAT good!
