Cabin in the Woods - a little spoilery
That series reminds of everything else he's done ... gimmicky, stylized crap dispensed with the one or two writing tricks he knows how to pull off. It's the TV equivalent of cotton candy, all I see is fluff or flash with no content or depth.TPRJones wrote:Well there's your problem, Malcolm. It does have some gimmicks and is a bit stylized, I'll give you that, but it also has some of the deepest and most interesting characters with some of the most subtle interactions ever seen in sci-fi TV. Admittedly sci-fi has never been the most subtle of genres, but Joss pulled it off.
So that's where I would disagree.

This is seriously a very important horror film (my favorite so far this year), and today's Shock-o-Rama is going to venture deep into enemy spoiler territory, to mine the rich gold awaiting discovery there. Having said that, Cabin in the Woods only really works to it's full potential if your first viewing is unsullied by prior knowledge of it's plot. If you haven't seen it yet, you're going to want to before reading further, else the best horror flick this year will probably seem pretty unimpressive once you finally get around to it. Consider yourself warned.

Ok, that last post convinced me. I'm either going to buy it when I pick up Avengers or rent it this weekend.
Is it worth owning?

I watched it twice within the first 24 hours I owned it. Been meaning to watch it again but I keep being too busy with other things. Also trying to get the wife to watch it but she only watches vampire diaries now.Leisher wrote:Ok, that last post convinced me. I really liked it.
I have a few grumbles about the plot, but the film is entertaining as hell. Honestly, I think they even held back towards the end. (If you've seen it, you'll get that statement.
I thought it was well acted, cast (that redhead is yum-a-dum-dum), directed, and produced.
I even know how he could pull off a sequel...
