Hmmmm ... I'm not sure I liked it. First hour was good, but the second was a bit unsatisfying. Not that I'm sure there was somewhere better to go with it.
I did like the Cally complication. That was nicely done. I had forgotten.

I liked how the flashbacks showed how everything would have been different... humanity would not have survived... if certain things would not have happened exactly when they did. Gives more credence to their supposition that angels are controlling us.
FOr example, if Laura's family hadn't been wiped out, a series of events would not have transpired to put her on that ship as the Secretary of Education. If Bill Adama hadn't been such a hardass, he'd have rolled over on that "integrity" test, swallowed his pride, and quit the fleet.
Only loose end I don't like is how they time traveled... or whatever that nuked earth/past earth was supposed to be. Two different planets completely? Whatever. I guess I have to accept that Starbuck really died in her Viper, and after that GOD made her an angel. But there's still a significant amount of time travel, it seems.

Indeed. Thinking back, did we ever get a good look at the first Earth? Was it really our Earth? I'm betting we didn't get a good enough look to be sure, just enough to suggest it was our Earth.
That would mean no time travel, and the only remaining unexplained bit is Kara Thrace.

Nope, wasn't her corpse carbon dated, or some such thing, to be a couple thousand years old? Time travel.

Perhaps, or perhaps she's been some sort of angel or something all along, because she's been dead for two thousand years.
No matter how you look at it, it doesn't seem to make much sense. They dropped the ball on that one.

I find I can still accept it though. "God did it" is a perfectly acceptable answer to me, since one of the first things a cylon said in the miniseries was, "God has a plan for you, Gaius." It was there the entire time, we just figured the cylons were wacked out nut cases.

Yeah, but I was hoping that by the end it would be resolved so that we could lose the God crap and still have the show make sense. Maybe that's why I found it unsatisfying, because they ended up resolving everything with "God did it" which I've always felt was cheating and lazy when it comes to telling stories.

I don't literally think GOD DID IT.... I just think God guided it.... and I know "it hates that name." Humans still had free will. Gaius was weak and could be swayed by head sex. No one had to really listen to Starbuck after she came back, but they did.
It is humans/cylons that drive the cycle.... it seems "God" is trying to teach them to end it. Or something.

I was finally able to put this series to rest. . . I missed a ton of episodes during season 4, and didn't watch any more. Then I was holding out to be able to watch them in HD. Since Netflix streams the whole series in HD, I was able to watch them. I watched the whole series from the beginning over the last few weeks. Holy shit was season 4-4.5 fucking awesome.
Having just freshly watched it, I can assure you SB's body was not carbon dated or anything. There was no implication that her body had been there for 2k years. It was only made clear that it was definitely her body, and that she had died and come back somehow. The only test was the DNA test on her blood that was on her tags.
There was also no time travel. They explained the 2k years with the fact that FTL travel had not been invented. They left earth trying to save the other 12 colonies from suffering the same fate. Being destroyed by their creations. They had discovered resurrection and had a space station setup for after the nukes hit the first earth. When they died, they res'ed and started the trip to Caprica. By the time they got there, 2k years later, the first Cylon war was already in progress. The final 5 made a deal with the Caprican cylons to stop the war and they'd teach them resurrection (because it was the only way for them to survive since they could not procreate). So again, no time travel. Only missing FTL.
I wonder how the Centurians are doing.
