All the good work China did to put on these Olympics could be forgotten because of an unnecessary, arrogant move by the government. Why risk everything to put a 14-year old in the competition when they could have replaced her with an of-age 16-year old gymnast? Sure, He is a better gymnast than the Chinese gymnasts who were eligible to compete, but with the judges they had at the Olympics, would it really have mattered?

Well, I guess that part won't ever get investigated, so we'll have to take what we can get.

$5 says before this is all over, someone mentions they are worried about the cheating Chinese "losing face."

Sorry Gordo, but that was already discussed. Despite early evidence that three of the Chinese gymnasts were underage, there was speculation that the IOC didn't want to investigate for fear of making the host country look bad.

Hell.

It would have been a dumb bet to take, anyway.

Yea, China gets to do damn near whatever they want. From the perspective of the Chinese gov't, the sole purpose of the Olympics is to make China look better than the rest of the world.

YA olympic officials are going to invistigate misconduct by China on underage gymnist. Will be done with thier findings on or about or maybe before 2011.

Exactly how can you prove someones age? I'm glad they are looking into it but what really can be done? Cut the girls in half and count the rings?

They find a document that says they are too young all china in going to do is say that the document claiming a younger age is false.

That's kinf of what they're doing.

First, they claimed official Chinese government documents from 2002, 2003, and 2004 are all wrong.

Now they're claiming "it's fake because it's on the internet."

Facts about the Olympic medals.

Combine a couple to get an interesting picture of the 2008 Beijing Olympics:
-China won the most gold medals at the Beijing Games with 51. They become the first country to crack the 50-gold mark since the Soviet Union in 1988. The most golds ever won in a single Olympics is 83 (United States, 1984).
-China won more golds in Beijing (51) than they did total medals in Atlanta (50).
-China won 27 gold medals in judged sports.

If you look at the metal count while subtracting judged sports, it would be:
U.S. - 25/26/25/76
China - 23/12/13/48

There were certainly judging issues, but China also has a more... concerted plan to win, with their whole Project 119 thing.

They definitely made a real effort this time out.

That being said, while their media is claiming Project 119 to be a huge success, they only won 4 golds in the sports it was focused on.

Most likely tbe bits showing the other guy are patched in. You don't see them both together and the lighting is a bit different.

Well at least some of the underage chinese gymnasts are getting caught.

Want to get the medals back as soon as possible so they can hand them out to the real winners? Why not just keep some extras around in a safe? Are they all going to really give them back?
