i got it, and will play. We've played it together?
I just don't like it as much as i thought i would.
Were they not adding more units to it eventually?

I'm talking to Stranger. . who did NOT buy PA after hyping it so much.
And ya, I can only assume they will be adding more units.
The more I play PA, the more I don't mind its current short comings. But, the epicness of it will be lacking for a while, I think.

you gotta understand that in a game like this you don't wanna be running into people around every corner you turn.
Not my first rodeo slick.
You've got to understand that most of us have been playing multiplayer games online since PCs first hit the scene, some prior to even that (Raise your hand if you played text based games on BBSs.). We're WAY past where console players think multiplayer exists. Deathmatch style got boring to us in the late 90s.
However, the thing that's making Cake and I skeptical here is our MMORPG experiences. We played UO. We saw what EQ was, how Star Wars Galaxies failed, etc.
We're coming at this with a certain expectation and with wisdom gained from years of playing.
All we're saying is that there are some big red flags that are hard to ignore in the game design that's being described.
For example:
-Things respawning once a day. This sort of design has caused problems in more than one game in the past. Big problems. As in "LOTS people quit the game" type of problems. Linking such a design choice to critical items only makes it even more troubling. Trust me, the big group that dominates your server will know where and when to camp daily to control the items on a server.
-Switching servers for items? That just tells me the game is too overambitious, and the technology isn't there yet. Besides, every server is going to have people camping those items. Trust me. There aren't going to be infinite servers. It also points out that large groups will be able to wipe out entire servers, and/or block people from logging into their server of choice.
-Even if you get to get the same 40 folks on a server, how long before it gets boring playing with them in the same fictional area? What happens if they're never logged on when you are? Then you're just playing any zombie game in solo mode.
I'm just scratching the surface here, and I'm not trying to get into a debate on this subject, just pointing out why I'm not as gung ho as you are on this game. It could still turn out to be amazing and we'll all play it, I just think a little more patience should be shown for an Early Access game.
I know I will need a lot of questions answered before I just jump into it blindly.
Go look at War Z (now called Infected: Survivor Stories), which is essentially this same game to see the problem they had, and still have.
In the meantime, I would recommend you try out State of Decay. It's not multiplayer yet, and some people, like me, have hit a storyline killing bug that they're actively working to fix, but it's a persistent world populated by zombies, and it has a lot of the elements that are in Day Z or should be, like finding survivors, building a safe house, running missions, searching for dwindling supplies (medicine, food, ammo, and construction materials), etc. Another one to look at is Project Zomboid where the developers bluntly tell you that you are going to die, your gameplay just dictates when and how.

The first computer game I played was on punch cards. So was the first program I wrote.
I suck!

Its like you guys are jumping all over me because i found a game that looked interesting to ME. I see all the lame ass games you guys post on these forums that i think look god awful, but do i flex my "historic gaming wisdom" on you guys? NO!
So if you don't like it thats fine. I dont give a shit if you do or not. But dont tell me your so much more knowledgable about a game because you've been around. That shit don't impress me, nor does it matter. I've been gaming as long as anyone and i know what I like, which is all that really matters.

Nope.
I'm simply expressing my opinion on the game because:
1. It does look interesting.
2. You made the statement about me most likely buying it.
Don't want my opinion? Don't post something here, and certainly don't bring my name up in the discussion.
I see all the lame ass games you guys post on these forums that i think look god awful,
Wait. "Look" god awful? And you label them as lame? Hmmm... Someone is judging a book by it's cover, yet telling everyone else they shouldn't be doing that...
Some games DO look awful, but are fun as hell.
UO had terrible graphics by today's standards, but I'd play it in it's prime over ANY other MMORPG on the planet currently. The Crysis series looks beautiful, but can't hold a candle to Half-Life's story and immersion level. Etc.
Sometimes you have to play something before you understand what it's bringing to the table.
do i flex my "historic gaming wisdom" on you guys? NO!
I didn't throw my "historic gaming wisdom" at you to insult you. You're just taking it that way.
I was simply responding to your comment, which was throwing YOUR gaming wisdom at me:
you gotta understand that in a game like this you don't wanna be running into people around every corner you turn.
You see? You're being defensive because I simply did EXACTLY what you did first!
All I was doing with that "wisdom" was pointing out why folks like Cake and I see red flags where you see "awesome".
So if you don't like it thats fine.
Never said that.
I dont give a shit if you do or not.
Of course you do or you never would have posted it here nor would you be responding. You want us all to play it, what's wrong with that?
But dont tell me your so much more knowledgable about a game because you've been around.
Never said that either. Simply pointing out potential red flags on an early access game. Even started a thread about early access games, and how they're getting a bit out of control.
I've purchased a LOT of finished games that really sparked my interest yet turned out to be shit. This one's an alpha with red flags. I apologize for trying to point them out to you and possibly save you and us from making a bad purchase. I wasn't at any time saying the game sucked. How could I even make that judgement having never played it? I was simply saying it'd probably be a good idea to wait a bit as the developers continue their work.
That shit don't impress me, nor does it matter.
Wasn't meant to impress, but it absolutely matters.
If someone does something and gets hurt because of it, are you going to step right up to do the same thing without being nervous of injury? Of course not.
So why would you discount your own experiences or those of people you game with when it comes to games? That makes no sense. Of course our opinions matter to you because A) you socialize with us and B) you play the same games. Just like your opinion matters to us!
Will we agree on everything? Hell no, but we're a better guide for you than random people you don't know.
I've been gaming as long as anyone and i know what I like, which is all that really matters.
I think TPR technically wins based on his punch card experience.
And again, I apologize. I thought I was simply pointing out that you didn't need to explain to me how a game worked because I have some experience with them, and trying to explain why I wasn't just ignoring your thoughts on a game to be a dick. I was pointing out where I saw potential issues that was it.
I did not realize my opinion meant so little to you. Particularly since I obviously steered you so wrong on LoL, Steam, and PC gaming.
My bad. :p
Oh, and one more thing, don't take your Cakedaddy aggression out on me. He's the one giving you hell over PA. C'mon, you should know better than to think my comments were mean spirited.

I've played MMO's that didn't have the first M, as in, no population. They are no fun. There's nothing to do. If I didn't want to run into people, I'd play a single player game.
This game, at most, could call itself an MO. Multiplayer Online. They should drop the Massive, because it's not.
There should be resources and crafting, not server up item spawns. Horrible idea.
My list goes on. This may one day be an awesome game. But given what I look for in MY MMO, this falls WAY short. I don't get it, to be honest.
Survive, in a non-persistant world with a really small population where death is permanent, until you respawn and can change worlds at will to get stuff you want from a community that's spread across multiple servers in small groups, etc. I can't piece together a game in here. Yet.
Too soon for me.

Yeah, I need to make a Rust thread, this game is legit.
Survival, little bit of zombies, radiation, crafting everything used by players, full pvp and looting. Other players are dicks.
I've died a lot in this game, but finally have a house built and a few ACTUAL GUNS(pistols) stockpiled.
One time I made a really obvious house right in the middle of the road. Made a fire outside during the night and drew a bunch of dudes who beat my door in and killed me and stole my stuff. It was terrifying.
I build metal doors now.

So, you CAN make the house secure? Or will they just bring bigger feet to kick it down with?

Someone should have just said "every game ever" in the "Let's multi!" thread.

I had wood doors. Metal doors are immune to melee attacks. I think you can still use explosives on them? But it's still a lot and they are prohibitively expensive. I've still never seen a grenade. You would need 20 grenades to get through a metal door.
E: What? This isn't the multi thread @ Gordo
So, you CAN make the house secure? Or will they just bring bigger feet to kick it down with?
My serious problem was that I built a house right next to the heaviest trafficked landmark in the game, a road everyone uses for navigation (no maps)
My new house is hidden on top of a mountain pass.

Is the goal to find one game and play it into the ground? I thought it was about finding new stuff, not just limiting ourselves to one game.
And Rust sounds interesting due to the defensive structures. If Day Z will have them, then ditto.
