Hispanic enough. Usually 1/8 is plenty to bullshit ethnicity.

Well, on the birth certificate, they only ask about the mother's ethnicity, not the dad's.

Last night there was a private pool party in the rich neighborhood for all the 6th graders. They rented a 500 capacity complex for 20 kids.

Well, I guess Gordon's one of us now.

This is their open concept grade school. On that wall are four areas for grades 5 & 6, the kids float between them throughout the day for different subjects. On the wall to the left is grades 3&4, behind me are grades 1&2. In the middle is the library and the Apple workstations. My kid isn't going to know how to use an Apple on day 1.

All the classrooms have the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the woods. While talking to his science teacher there was a fucking deer walking around outside the window.

The proper place for apple product is in the fucking trash. Anything else is misuse. Teach him well.

So his class is doing a field trip to a park today for some beginning-of-the-year team building. Parents are helping out, I drove my kid and three others... Bennie, Tamman, and Reyan. Tamman and Reyan are... I think... Pakistani and Indian, and I think I heard Bennie is from Taiwan. On the way here the boys were reciting pi out past 100 digits.

One of the kids said he won a competition two years ago, he recited out to 206 places. He is currently 11.

Memorizing irrational numbers to X decimal places is fun or practically useful? Is he taking bets on the side or something to make it worthwhile?

Practically useful and fun are two unrelated concepts, but then that's a natural mistake to make for someone that hates fun, I guess.

I can't do 100 digits, but I can sing all of the bits featured in this video.

That vid and song have more worth than remembering however many useless digits of pi you'll never need to know. There are already machines that calculate and perform random memory recall better than your puny mind could ever hope to until the Borg take us over. Also, I like fun just fine. But once I figure out how something works, fun is 99.9% likely to go out the window. In the case of arbitrar(il)y pointless and limitless memorization, I've already explored and forgotten more techniques than I'd care to admit. It was temporarily amusing, much like SimCity or Afterlife. But like those two games, it loses its lustre when the tricks get familiar.

The school just posted some facebook pics from the first week of school, and I just realized something...

I have seen ZERO fat kids at this school.
