I also had no idea what to expect... I've never read the books. So far I have been delightfully surprised by the breaking of my preconceptions of characters.
Also I didn't know Seth Rogan was doing a lot to get this made, and making it. Interesting.

The only other book I can compare it to, in terms of how depraved it gets, is Crossed.
I'm truly amazed they're making this show, and I'm excited to watch it because if they follow the book, there is no way in hell that Catholics aren't going to be PISSED. I'm talking death threat level and probably farther.
By the way, Preacher has an ending. So hopefully Seth and his crew stick to that as well.

You can add every major western religion to that list. Plus Eastern Orthodox Christianity.

I'm 5 or 6 episodes in.... I'm still not sure what's going on in 3 of the story threads. There's a strong odor of Twin Peaks in this show... just a lot of odd, random things seem to be happening.
Also I didn't realize that one guy was Jackie Earl Halley until I saw his name in the opening credits and said OH YEAH. that is him, isn't it. Rorschach lives.

Wife and I had trouble with this series. We were about to give up on it about 3 episodes in. The consensus for us is pretty much, "It's damn weird, but I want to see what happens next."

HFS I also didn't realize that was Howard Stark.
My brain is turning to mush.

Oh yeah. And Tulip is the girl in the flower dress from SHIELD, so two Marvel ties.

HFS.
If you tell me the vampire is Brad Pitt at this point I'd probably believe you.

No, but the blad guy at the slaughteer/power house was Rorschach from The Watchmen. So there's a DC comic tie-in as well.
Aaaannd... the kid that was telling Preacher that his dad was beating his wife early in the series was the annoying Peter Pan at the class reunion from the Geico commercial

Well that was weird.
Finished it.
I don't even know what to think.

Is it worth the time? I've got like 6 episodes waiting to be watched.

I'm not sure.
This is, in a small part, weird like Twin Peaks... mainly whenever the Meat and Power guy is concerned. And there's heaven and hell and fuckups and badasses all around. And a vampire. And Season 1 could be considered to be self contained............................ It's all just weird. Something about it reminds me of Fargo, too. Maybe some of the characters being off.

Watch it. I've read the books and will type more in a day or two when I'm back at a PC.

Was going okay. Enjoying the series. Had some God stuff that might offend some, but I wasn't overly upset since they hadn't explained anything yet. Then they got into this week's episode and had Jesus having sex. Not just having sex, but having sex with a married woman.
I can go with the whole "Jesus was married" angle (had they chosen to go that route), because to be a good Jew he probably would have been. But committing adultery? Hard pass. Removed from DVR schedule.

I've been storing them on my DVR for a binge viewing.
I had heard the previous episode was pretty blasphemous. As I stated previously, I read the books and pointed out this stuff was coming. I have no issue with it, not being religious myself, but I get others doing so.

Family Guy did it first. Season 13. Episode 6.
"The 2000 Year Old Virgin"
To me, this is interesting seeing where lines get crossed. I think of films/shows like "Oh God You Devil", Family Guy, Simpsons, South Park, the ones with Morgan Freeman as God, Dogma, The Passion of the Christ, etc. and all the outrage they did or didn't spark. Here's all these instances of God or Jesus being depicted and while folks get mad there's been little violence (right?). Meanwhile, print a cartoon of Allah and death comes, but that's a different topic.
Going back to Family Guy, Season 10, episode 12,
"Livin' on a Prayer", Lois kidnaps a kid with cancer whose parents believe in the healing power of faith and won't take him to the doctor. Lois makes the argument at the end that God gave us the ability to learn, develop medicine, and cure the illness. Thus, God's will is in the hands of doctors and modern medicine.
Taking that logic a step further, if God is infallible, and God made us in His image, then doesn't it stand to reason that He's fine with Preacher?
Serious question. I'm not trying to twist logic or corner anyone. Just curious about those lines.

Had an interesting conversation with my missionary sister and her husband the other day, in town from Thailand.
They felt that violent movies for their children were fine, because "War was in the bible." But anything showing nudity/sex between unmarried couples was terrible, because that was a commandment. They asked my opinion, and even as a veteran I shared that I wouldn't want my son joining the Marines because war is fucking horrible, but boobies to a teenage boy were wondrous things, but we all politely disagreed and changed the subject.

Uh, that is not a commandment I remember.
I'm with you, for the record. People ACTUALLY fuck. People RARELY kill people. Why are we allowed the reverse on TV?
