Took the wife to a movie tonight. Rave Cinemas just started $5 Tuesdays where all movies are $5 except 3D ones. We did this a month or so ago, and it was a great experience. Decent business, but no crowding, and lines were quick.
Holy shit how things change. The experience was still great, but I've rarely ever seen a theater that packed. Now it helps that it was the mall theaters, but shows were selling out left and right. Lines filled the lobby in every direction and went out the door. Not only for the concessions and cashiers, but also for the automated machines where you can buy or pick up tickets.
Gathering from what I saw, movies are very overpriced. Think "gas for $1.00" crowds, that's what it was like.
Seriously, think Phantom Menace level crowds. Every showtime of every movie had a line waiting to get in. Not typical for this town.
It helps that Despicable Me 2 and The Lone Ranger opened tonight and that Monsters University, World War Z, White House Down, Man of Steel, and Fast and Furious 6 are all still there.
It makes one wonder how much more business they'd get if they'd drop ticket prices all the time. Maybe not to $5, but something more reasonable for them and the audience.
Rave Cinemas' new promotion
I went to that theater last week for the first time since.... ever. The show I wanted to watch was only playing there, at the time I wanted to watch it.Leisher wrote:Now it helps that it was the mall theaters....
What a shithole. The staff, concessions, and theater cleanliness is absolute shit compared to Levis or Fallen Timbers.

Well duh.
You're talking about a theater that sees FAR more foot traffic, and not everyone is a white yuppie because it's not located far away from minorities like the two theaters you mentioned.
Racist.

Seriously, it felt very ghetto. I'll never go there again.
Joking aside, I think you're being a little too judgmental based on your constant visits to theaters in rich, white neighborhoods.
I saw more black people last night, then have probably ever set foot in Levis Commons or Fallen Timbers' theaters.
That being said, for the fucking sea of humanity that was there, the place was in good shape and the bathroom I visited was clean.
I go there a lot, and the only thing "ghetto", when compared to the other theaters, are the people.
Racist.
Even the grape drink slushy maker was out of order. wtf.
They do not have a grape drink slushy maker.
