From the "when EA wasn't run by bitches" file, prompted by PA's "The Cut"...

Something I remember fondly from days long past. I had some fucking EPIC games on the Sega on this one with scores that rivaled NFL games. Granted, I was in grade school at the time, but it was just as unrealistic as NFL Blitz and just as much fun.

I think I can still pull off the 100% certain goal on the breakaway due to the deke move. Unless the opponent takes direct control of the goalie, you always score.

Then there was "the spot," a tiny, tiny position on the top inner half of each faceoff circle in the D-Zone where any player had a guaranteed goal if you could get it just right. Righties could score from the left circle, lefties from the right.

Finally, there was my personal favourite because it could be done from clear across the fucking ice and flew in the face of all known hockey logic. If you were on the exact center of the rink's long axis, then did a pass while holding the D-pad up, and no one managed to touch it, there was a 50/50 chance of the puck taking off like it was on a zipline and going through the 5-hole of the opposing goalie. This was particularly lethal during shootouts, when the game was kind enough to start you on the long axis.

I remember a lot of drinking and enjoying this game in college.

If you remember, it couldn't have been that much.

EDIT: If nothing else, you have to give props to a hockey game played on a Sega two decades hence that people still give a shit about ... that had ZERO fighting. Completely removed, whereas NHL '93 had unlimited(?) fighting and subsequent entries would permit it in a limited fashion.

Well, I was about to say how I remember it well, that my college roommate and I played it a lot, but while whatever we played looked like that and was on the Sega, there was most certainly fighting. So it must have been something else.

Yeah, but '94 had the one-timers.

That was when you could start creating players and playing through actual seasons.
