Torchwood
I said what he did to his grandson was horrible... I'm still not sure what I think about it, yet... his actions that I found to be unacceptable was what he did in 1965, and then... I still don't understand why they didn't leak the info to the world.
I don't know that I could sacrifice my son to save millions.
I don't know what I think about that middle man killing his daughters to spare them that fate. Don't know why he didn't release the info and see how things played out, instead. I think I would have tried to run and hide, though, minimum. Kind of a no-brainer. The murder-suicide can be a last resort.

And after a trip to Wikipedia, I understand now. I had completely forgotten about the 1965 stuff.
That's messed up. I must have put it out of my mind in a desperate attempt to keep liking Jack.
Hopefully I'll forget again by the time Season 4 rolls around.

Fortunately enough time has passed since the last season that I can stand to see Harkness again.

Looks like they might be keeping up the production values from last season.

DirecTV showed the first (hour long) episode of Miracle Day and I watched it.
It's a lot better than the BBC stuff. People knew how to pull a trigger.
Most of it takes place in the USA, and it looks like the rest of the episodes will be U.S. centric as well.
Short, plot synopsis to follow, so spoiler alert:

I would watch this series if I had the channel.
It looks promising.

SPOILER: It takes place after Torchwood has disbanded. One day the word "Torchwood" appeared on every government computer in the world. A short while later all electronic devices lost all references to anything Torchwood related. Data was somehow deleted.
At the same time, humans lacked the ability to die, no matter how damaged their bodies were. The media calls this lack of death "Miracle Day."
A couple U.S. agents (a girl and an agent who should be dead but isn't) try to figure out what Torchwood is try to see if it's related to Miracle Day.

I think the story and the way the characters were dragged into it was a bit clunky. The stories in prior seasons have been much more smoothly told ... well, most of them at least. But I'm willing to overlook that; they were eager to get a potentially new audience into it with a minimum of overhead.
Although they sort of blew that when they didn't explain about Jack and why the ... what you saw on him was such a huge deal. I'm finding it hard to imagine how they are going to be able to justify that, given his origin story, and it really is a very huge deal.

I liked it. I had been hearing grumblings that it was bad, but honestly, for Torchwood, it was very good.
I liked all the "456" references. I like it when big things aren't forgotten. And it was "Oh yeah, the 456 wanted 10% of all children, globally. That means it was probably a big deal in the USA, too."
I guess I sorta missed Cap'n Jack. AND......... I heard the Torchwood shooting schedule was why he couldn't appear in the last ep of Doctor Who when the Doctor was pulling in all his old friends for the big op to get Amy. Would have been neat to have Cap'n Jack in there, too.
Anyway, episode 1 was quite good, for Torchwood.

I am really enjoying this series, but I'm not used to Torchwood - or any show set in that universe - having such a long and drawn out story line. It's driving me crazy with all the waiting to find out what the hell is going on!

I have a small issue with their complete lack of security... the whole world is looking for them but they keep calling friends and loved ones because... nah... no one would be monitoring the communications of their friends and loved ones... but it's still good for Torchwood.

Episode where Gwen's family is held hostage: a little too much gay romance for my taste, but I had my first moment where I felt like Matheson wasn't completely incompetent when he not only tracked Gwen and saved Jack, but also organized the rescue of Gwen's family.
Episode where the guy dies: I feel like the Torchwood team are really just spinning their wheels and aren't getting anywhere. Also, if that null field is blocking whatever caused Miracle Day, doesn't that mean Jack is immortal again when in that field? Also Q stole every scene he was in, and I now want to see a Torchwood spinoff starring John Delancie.

Well, then. It's all over and they actually made most things make some semblance of sense. Not completely, of course, but well enough.
Except for two things: there's no way that actually made Jack mortal, and the thing with Rex is impossible. It's just completely contrary to the established mythos. I'll let the first one go on the assumption that Jack wasn't really mortal but just temporarily woundable and would have come back had he actually died. The thing with Rex, though, just doesn't fit.
But fine, whatever. Still a good show.

Perhaps The Blessing had some connection with the untempered schism, which is what gave Rose the power to do what she did to Captain Jack, and the fact Rex was filled to the brim with Jack's blood at the time of the big fix was....
awww fuck it.
I found it interesting that in order to stop the miracle, there was a giant vagina in the earth that Captain Jack had to give a reverse menstruation. I was afraid for a minute he would be required to fuck it.
