I need a new series to watch.

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I don't watch it on SyFy, either. But DVDs take too long.

RSS -> torrent -> PHP -> doubletwist -> XBMC (on AppleTV) = automated queued episodic delivery of TV

I was thinking of checking out Dr Who on bittorrent, watching it over the PS3 media server, and buying if I liked.

But the last time I installed a BT client it was full of trojans, and not the fun kind.

Anyone want to DL it and put it on an FTP server for me?

uTorrent is trojan free, and it's what I use for the RSS automated new episode grabbing trick.

I'd be willing to snag it and share, but my up at home is hellacrap. It'd take you a week or more to get a whole season from me.

I'm willing to take one for the team and shell out the cash to buy the DVD sets.

Someone has to let the companies who make these shows know that people are actually interested in them.

That's not ALL shows, of course, but the ones I enjoy I make sure I support.

Since the Family Guy DVD sales got it renewed a lot of companies are watching those numbers now to determine whether a series is worth keeping and the size of budget it deserves.

Too bad everyone in the world didn't buy a Firefly DVD set.

Hey now... everything I ever DL'd, I ended up buying. Sometimes I like to try before I buy.

That goes for Firefly and LOST and BSG.

As for Dr Who, I'd just buy it but it's over $40, and less than half that if I buy from Amazon UK, even after I pay shipping (which I HAVE done with blu rays... region-free). Problem is, DRM won't let me play region 2 DVDs from the UK on my region 1 DVD player, and fuck that. It's DRM and fuck that.

Fuck that.

I wasn't judging. I've done the same thing at times.

However when it's a show I really enjoy I do my best to show the networks that people are willing to pay for it so they hopefully won't cancel it. Eureka being a prime example of a show that needs support.

Eureka is gonig on the list. It isn't a spinoff of anything, so I can get right into it?

Also, I'll be picking up Firefly on blu ray one of these days. Thinking about a Halloween marathon.

Eureka is a stand alone series.

Speaking of Eureka, I had a great idea for a cross over with Eureka and Human Target. The lead actors in both series look similar enough to be brothers. I think two stand alone stories allowing the main character or maybe a few characters from each series to appear on the other show would be pretty cool. Sure, they're different networks, but so what? Has anyone ever tried it before? If Marvel and DC can write crossovers why can't ScyFy and FOX?

And a Firefly Halloween marathon? I disagree. Halloween is for Horror. Do Firefly for Thanksgiving.

Firefly is sci-fi, at least. It wont scare away most of my family who skip my horror movie marathons in October.

I also think Firefly is in the Buffy universe. I think River is a slayer.

That's an interesting concept.

That's not ALL shows, of course, but the ones I enjoy I make sure I support.

I try where I can. I still have to pay for having a TV feed even if I don't use it. I'm not a Nelson household so it makes no difference if I watch new shows on the actual TV feed I'm charged for or through other channels. But I just don't do physical media anymore. I don't even have a DVD player or optical drive ... well, I might have one in the bottom of a junk box in my closet. But I don't expect to use it ever again.

When I decide to pony up and support a show I usually spend the money I might otherwise spend on DVDs on some show merchandise instead. That's difficult because I don't need anymore damn t-shirts I'll never wear, and that's the majority of what everyone does these days.

That's one of the reasons I do my best to buy DVDs or watch certain shows online. Those are numbers I can grow and they get noticed.

I fucking hate the Nielsens, but that's a subject for another thread.
