Stargate SG1
And speaking of the universe being persistent.... they revisit the black-hole gate more than once (not literally).... including when they used it to blow up that frakkin star.TPRJones wrote:Oh, yeah, I remember that one! Yeah, it's time I watched it all from the beginning again. Soon.
Neat.

Season 6 was good. I knew the team couldn't lose when Parker Louis was added to SG1. I'd read they had their budget cut a little on the new network, but I couldn't really tell. In most cases the FX get better and better each season.
Ordered seasons 7 and 8.... they are currently all cheap on amazon right now. I need to figure out when to start watching Stargate:Atlantis in the mix. Like Buffy and Angel, it is probably easier to watch them concurrently.

Whoa. Jonas Quinn was Parker Lewis? I never noticed that. Weird.
Concurrency isn't necessary for the Stargate overlap. The two shows did cross over, but not as often nor as strongly as Buffy and Angel, and usually it was Stargate effecting Atlantis rather than the other way around. Still, if you can do it it's not a bad idea.
Atlantis started with season eight of Stargate, right after the two-part Stargate season opener.

Yep, Parker Lewis. I looked it up on IMDB to make sure.TPRJones wrote:Whoa. Jonas Quinn was Parker Lewis? I never noticed that. Weird.

And OK... S8 of SG1. I will watch the first disk of season 8 SG1, then disk 1 of S1 Atlantis. Gotcha.
All of them are on order.
Glad I got in to this series. It is solid.
But I think after I am done... I'm watching Buffy and Angel all over again. The comics keep them fresh in my mind.

Finished both series. Some thoughts:
- There was the SG-1 episode where they are allowing a camera crew in to record things for posterity.... and a major character died in that episode... that one sticks with me. Really unexpected and handled all
- I enjoyed the Ori arc of the last 2 seasons of SG-1. Claudia Black is hot. She was familiar and I had to look her up... she was one of the crash survivors in Pitch Black. But now she'll always be Valla to me.
- You can make a drinking game out of some Atlantis lines... drink when Tayla says "My people" or when Rodney says, "Oh no..." Whenever Shepherd bangs an ascended chick, take a shot of heroin.
- Kayle Frye!
- Inara!
- I really liked Rodney's character arc... he was essentially the same guy from his brief appearance in the middle of SG-1 to the end of Atlantis, but you really end up liking him. Not much of an arc, I guess, but the audience is really given a chance to get to know him, especially since without him Atlantis would have been destroyed... at least 20 times over 5 seasons. I think he saved the day more than anyone else.
- I like how more than once they made fun of Carter's line from the first episode..."Just because my sexual organs are on the inside instead of the outside..."
- The last SG-1 episode was amazing.
- The first Stargate movie "The Ark of Truth" was a nice closure of the Ori arc, and it was neat seeing something closer to a feature-film Stargate, again. They really spent a lot of time with some "Lord of the Rings"-type scenery shots, and the new score was a nice touch.
- The previews for "Stargate Continuum" looks really good from what I have seen, looks like a lot of F-16 vs. space ships... but as I said, it is 3 weeks late from the dick I ordered it from, used.
It has been a long time, but it was worth getting through it all.
Does anyone know if the commentaries are worth listening to?
