Independence Day 2

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Here's another trailer.

Also, the search couldn't find this thread or something. I don't like the search function and y'all are going to hear about it a lot if I don't start to like it, because that's how we roll.

Well, that would be out of character...

Liked it.

It was missing something the first movie had.... I can't think of what it was, yet.... I think maybe it was the complete feeling of hopelessness, our Earth tech versus advanced alien tech. In this one we have advanced alien tech too and even when at the doorstep of defeat we still had shit going on.

But liked it.

And as I thought, they left the door wide fucking open for sequels. Many, many sequels.

It failed to take the top spot this weekend, and has been disappointing critically and financially. So this is probably the last hurrah for ID until someone decides to remake it.

All pre-vacatoin tasks are done, so the kid and I hit this for a matinee this afternoon.

Just as good the second time around, and no more stupid than the first movie, in spite of the poor reviews.

I think the major thing that bugged me that I couldn't put my finger on the first time I saw it were the younger actors... the supposed next-generation of badasses. Will Smith's stepkid acts like a whiny bitch most of the time, not this dashing hero the movie treats him as. It doesn't make sense. The whole world fawns over him, and he is actually a whiny bitch. It's weird.

They couldn't put these kids in a lot of scenes with the actors from the first movie because they would be completely overshadowed by those relative giants.

Also Dr. Oken has a much better role in this movie. Instead of weird goofball he is now a competent mad scientist of action.

I hope there are like 5 sequels but with different young actors because these sucked except maybe for the slightly nerdy pilot who liked the Chinese pilot. He was pretty cool because he wasn't supposed to be some heroic badass and not pulling it off.

Is it the fault of the actors or maybe the writer/director? Roland is getting pretty old, so the odds of his perceiving the younger generation as whiney brats has gone way up, and ultimately the actors have to do it however he wants it done.

I honestly don't know as I haven't seen it and don't know Jessie Usher (although he does look oddly familiar for some reason). Just pointing out an alternate possible cause.

The other actors had no problem letting their inner badasses shine, even Brent Spiner.

It's the "actors."

When you say other actors were badass, were any of them young? Because Brent Spiner isn't, you know, so he doesn't count as an example to counter the possible cause described.

Not arguing, just curious, and I probably won't see this until well after it's released on home video.

None of the younger crew were anything like the hotshot pilots from the first movie. It was like an entire crew of Harry Conick Junior, "I can't get him off me big daddy."

I didn't like it as much as the first and while I didn't hate it, I can comfortably say, it was shit.

The writing. Holy fuck the writing. Just terrible in every possible way. From the dialogue to people magically warping all over the planet AND moon to the non-stop coincidences to the ridiculously bad science. This wasn't a shitty movie that was a blast like the first one, this was just a shitty movie that tries too hard to be the first one and fails spectacularly.

The young actors were indeed terrible. However, the older actors weren't exactly amazing.

In the future when someone reboots Mystery Science Theater again, this movie will be one they mock.

I just watched it this week as well. The writing is awful, the young kids are awful, just bad - yet i had to see the end.

Moonblast - ship destroys everything in one shot.

Earth area 54 blast - lots of blasts barely do anything.
It's not me, it's someone else.
