It was as good as TV ever gets. It had peers in the past, but I've never seen much that surpassed it.

This was fox, and like all good sci-fi they thought the premiere episode was too long, too much talking and not enough action so they never aired it. THEY NEVER AIRED THE PREMIERE EPISODE. Yeah way to start a series off right. Plus the usual not showing the ones they did have in the right order, owning the DVD was the only way to see they how they meant to be seen until sci-fi started airing them. One of the best shows I've seen fucked up my dumbass tv execs that wonder why ratings are down when all they air is shitty reality tv.

Well, hypothetically. ;-)

Over the last few days when I needed to distract my mind from reality, I replayed Firefly episodes in my head.

Is the new movie Serenity set in the Firefly universe?

I saw the premiere episode of Firefly a couple nights ago.

From what I can tell, yes, it's the same universe. In fact, the actors from the series will be playing the same characters in the movie.

It's a movie of the series. Think Star Trek movies. It's not just the universe, it's a movie version of the series. Joss hopes to make this into a movie series and has stated he has no plans of making the TV series anymore.

I *think* I saw the black bounty hunter from the last TV episode in the movie trailer.

I believe the answer is yes.

500 years after Firefly.

Not sure about that. In the trailers I see the regular crew.

Um ... well, not exactly. It's the TV series ON CRACK. Jesus Christ!

If you like the show, do go see it, but ... holy shit! I have no idea what to say about it just yet beyond that exclamation.

If you haven't seen the series, you can absolutlely still get into this movie, I guarantee that. They lay out just who the characters are and what the universe is very clearly, leaving little room for confusion. However do be aware that the tone is very much different, and the story and action and style is a hell of a lot more intense than the much more laid-back TV series.

Oh, and as to when, it comes on the heels of the series. There's a change or two that suggests some time has passed, but not much as the doctor mentions something about being with them on Serenity for 18 months or so.

Holy shit good, but I haven't decided yet if I can ever watch it again.

Maybe it's the drugs I'm on, but this movie hit me damn hard.

Well....... hmmm.

Star Trek 2 definately was a different tone than the TV series, too.

I have to figure out how to get to the movies in the very near future.

Is there a DVD screener out there, yet? :D Not that I'd ever download it.

I got home and fired up the TiVo and I'm watching tonight's epside off of SciFi ... and every so often I can't help but cry a little.

Serenity turned me into a big girl, I guess. :'(
