1. If you haven't read the book, read it. One of the very few sci-fi books on the Marine Corps reading list (I think Starship Troopers is on there, as well). It will end up being one of your top 3 faves.

2. The guy who wrote the Troy screenplay is being tapped to write this one. Not really a recommendation, in my book.

If there's one thing I've learned in life, it's this:

1. Predicting the weather in North Carolina during the summer is easy---high around 90, partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon showers.

2. Predicting the results of a movie adaptation of a decent book is easy---partly sucky with a chance of completely crappy.

My expectations aren't high.

Did Card write it before he went insane or after?

I just read e;sewhere, "I love this book but I have a hard time liking it because Card is a fascist."

I hurt my eyes because they rolled so hard. I hate people who use that word and have no fucking clue what it means. They probably wear "Che" tshirts too, and have no idea who he is.

Just from his essays that you post, I think there's a piston or ten not firing in his brain.

He is, technically a reactionary person.

He's just not a Fascist.

"Fascism" is the practice of putting your nation or race above all other things, or desiring a dictatorial form of government (Unless there's another definition I'm unaware of). Card is a conservative hard-core Mormon, but I've never seen him suggest that "President for Life George Bush" was any kind of good idea. That isn't fascism.

According to dictionary.com, they also employ stringent socioeconomic controls & censorship.

I've never seen any of that, either. Sounds more like liberal philosophies, to me. And Card aint.

Bush wouldn't be good enough for him.

Well, okie dokie.

I don't claim to have read or listened to every word he's ever uttered, but I've never, ever seen him disparage the Constitution or the democratic process.

I'd consider him in the 50/50 range right now.

He's done some amazing movies, but there's also a few bad ones that were SO bad that they'd be on lists for worst films of all time. The bigger problem is that the bad films seem to be more common at this stage of his career.
