So the Medics and Pyros have been updated and now, much to Gordon's delight, it's the heavy's turn.

The TF2 Blog implies that we'll see it next week or so.

It will contain, three new weapons for the Heavy, 35 achievements for the Heavy, a new game mode, 5 maps for that new game mode, a new payload map, and "cp_steel" which is a tremendously popular user created map that was apparently voted in by the suggestions they received.

So I guess in one week, everyone and their brother is going to be a heavy. Seems like that might be a great time to work on my Medic achievements.

I was at the local amusement park today, pushing the kid around in his stroller.

Suddenly, I cried out, "I must push little cart!" in a russian accent.

Next Tuesday has been announced as the Heavy update release date.

I'm really curious about the new play mode.

I did the "I must push little cart!" several times through the day as I pushed the kid in his stroller, but no one ever recognized it.

You know what it means, don't you?

I assume you're simply referring to the payload maps.

Yeah, and the spontaneous chatter from the Heavy class during that map, along with, "Little cart will not push itself!" is, "I must push little cart!"

In a slight russian accent.

Yeah, I thought the same thing.

Although, have you earned any of the new weapons? That's what they are...a mixed bag.

Here's what the pyro gets:
Shotgun OR flare gun -
The shotgun can kill people, but can't set them on fire and has no range. Meanwhile, the flare gun can set people on fire forcing them to seek health, and has a lot of range, but rarely has enough to kill someone.

Ax OR Fire ax -
The ax is the ax and works like all other melee weapons. The fire ax has barbed wire around it and hits for critical damage 100% of the time...if the person is on fire. If they're not, it hits for 50% less than what the normal ax would hit for.

Flamethrower vs. Backburner-
The flamethrower is the standard weapon and has a kick ass feature in the airblast. The airblast can be used to move demo bombs, shoot rockets back at soldiers, and shoot opposing players into the air which is great against ubers. The backburner gets 100% criticals but only if you hit a person in the back, however it does not have the airburst ability.

I actually carry the regular ax and regular flamethrower. The flare gun, however, is pretty awesome, particularly for team thinking folks. I mean, you won't get kills with it, but you'll drive away opposing players and/or weaken them for teammates.

Badwater Basin is the new payload map.

Natasha.

That's weapon number 2, so the final weapon will be an alternative for the shotgun. Interesting that they're saving that one for last.

I don't think I like that new chaingun, either. The Heavy is supposed to be a slow, damage-dealing tank. With that weapon the Heavy is a slow, less-damage-dealing... tank. The "slow down your targets" thing will need to be pretty drastic for that to be worth it.

You know you can switch weapons between deaths right?

So if a certain scout was giving you fits by circle strafing, you drop Sasha, pick up Natasha, and cut him down.

Nope, did not know that.

Looks like it might not be all desert and abandoned building looking maps anymore. Looks like wood in the background of the picture and Valve has said new environments are on their way.

WSGrundy, look Gordon and I up on Steam, we're on most nights.

One of the guys at FNF came across this image predicting what the servers will be like tomorrow when the update hits:Image

And the new game play mode? TF2 Arena. Not your normal death match. Looks interesting, but I'll need to see it in action. If you only get one life, it might suck to spawn and get immediately snipped. If you get multiple lives, the spawn timer will become a huge deal.

Interesting that they still haven't named the third weapon. That's the last thing, but why wait until the day the update is being released before announcing it? It'll be a replacement for the shotgun, obviously, but will it be as good as the Pyro's flare gun?

Meet the Sandvich!

That's an interesting little twist there. Give up the shotgun for the sandwich, but you're vulnerable for 4 seconds while you eat. I like the concept. It's negative where it should be, but positive in terms of helping the heavy who is slow and too reliant on medics to heal him.

There's a website that has been making fun of the idea for a sandwich for the heavy, in a "so absurd it could never happen" sort of way for weeks, now.

I saw a fantastic quote once that addresses such comments or lines of thinking. It went something like, "Yes, let's focus on realism in a game where two factions at war with one another build identical bases three feet apart."

Go give the developer's commentary a listen sometime. They talk about how the first TF2 was very realistic, but wasn't fun. Thus, they threw out realism in favor of this new "cartoony" style and it worked.

A sandvich works in this game, but obviously wouldn't work in a realistic shooter.
