Block Buster vs Netflix - Block Buster wins!!

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

BB just changed how their mail order movie stuff works. You can now, instead of mailing the movies back, take them to your local block buster. For each movie you return, you get a coupon for a free rental. At the same time, the movies are considered returned, and the next 3 (or however many you subscribe to) are put in the mail to you. So, you can technically have up to 6 movies out at once! Plus, you still get your two coupons per month for free rentals.

So, you can continue to drop them in the mail, or, if there's a new release you just gotta have right now, you can return your mail order movies to the store for free rentals on the spot (plus get the next queued movies sent).

Super cool if you ask me.

They are probably trying to do two things with this:
1. Save money on shipping by doing bulk shipments from the stores.
2. Collect those "no late fee but there's a restocking fee" fees.

I'm taking my first one to store today for return to try this out.

BB still sucks compared to Netflix, though, for a variety of reasons. Letting me get free in-store rentals - no matter how many I'm getting - isn't enough to make up for the other problems they have. Like how they usually ship me the 15th or so item on my list, skipping over lots of "available now" movies I wanted to see first. And how it's nearly impossible to get a group of movies in a particular order (like sequels in a particular series) because of that. That really really annoys me no end.

The only movie it's held up for me is "The Black Hole". But, it always said "Short Wait".

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!
From Dec. 5 through Dec. 21 current Netflix members can exchange the tear-off address flaps of their Netflix rental envelopes and receive on-the-spot free movie rentals from Blockbuster for every flap they bring in to any of the more than 5,000 participating BLOCKBUSTER stores.

Okay, so there's this box beside my TV stand. I didn't know why at the time, but when I started with Netflix a bit over two years ago, I tossed the address flaps into that box. They've been building up ever since, and I've got at least a few hundred in there now.

I think I should walk into Blockbuster with that box and rent the whole fucking store. Just because I can.

For all the times that Ballbuster has screwed over their customers, it's goddamned near your duty to do so.

"My duty as a complete and utter bastard."

Gold star for ID'ing that line.

I'm pretty sure there's a limit.

It would be funny to document the attempt though. Hint. Hint.

I have no means of documentation. But I'll be sure to tell the story of the attempt. :)

Saturday should be good. I'll go then.

I may have found a problem with the plan. I found a reference online for Blockbuster stating that the maximum number of simultaneous rentals per in-store account is 20. 'Course their press release didn't allow for any stipulations, so I could probably be a pest about it. Might be better to just have the fun of seeing their expression and settle for 20, though.

I wonder how integrated their systems are? I could store-hop and spread the love, maybe.

Well, it used to be that a Blockbuster membership card was only good for a single store... soooo?

Interestingly I do have two weeks off of work for Christmas. I figure I can watch 30+ DVDs easy. Maybe it's time I checked out 24, for example.

With Blockbuster can you have two queues? I am trying to find this option and I don't see it.

Not on their old website, no. I don't know if you can on the new website, I cancelled the day after they decommisssioned the old website. I hate websites stuffed with bandwidth-eating crap they just don't need.

For those of you that use Blockbuster does the website suck for you also?

Specifically when you are messing around in the My Queue section? The rest of the website seems to be fine but if I want to move films up or down in my list it lags and I have to sit. If I want to move something to the 2 or 3 slot I will have to wait about 30 secs for the whole process to finish. You can't scroll up or down or do anything else why this is going on.

Not the end of the world but annoying as hell. Netflix everything happen like it would on a normal website but with blockbuster its like I am using a 56k modem.

So has the shitty sites queue been down for the last three days for anyone else.

The site has always sucked to use but now I can't even access my queue to rearrange my movies.
