Lord of the Rings Online is surprisingly enjoyable. I'm only up to level ten, but some of the more interesting details are already starting to pop up. For one thing, there are deeds, which are sort of surprise automatic quests that come up as you go along. Like, the first time you kill a wolf, up pops a "wolf-slayer" deed where if you kill 50 totoal you get a new title that you can display behind your name and a virtue that gives you a small bonus to a stat. There are tons of deeds in the world, and only a handful are the standard "kill things" sort of quests. Most are more interesting than that.
Also at level ten you unlock Monster Play. This is where you can log in as a level 50 evil monster and run around like a maniac doing quests for the bad guys and engaging in battle with the good-guy characters for various locations. It's somewhat similar to Realm -vs- Realm battles in DAoC, but streamlined and more exciting. Plus the destiny points you earn as a monster (you can't level up) can be spent not only on making your monsters more powerful, but can instead be taken back to your other characters and spent to give them a little boost instead if you wish.
So far it's the best standard fantasy MMO i've played, barely edging out WOW.
