Anyone have it yet? I hear it's about as scary and cool as Doom3 was....

Good reviews, creepy little ghost girls and lots of firefights!

I'll post a review when I beat it, but so far it's decent. I'm a bit disappointed by some aspects of the game, but it's strengths make up for those flaws.

The atmosphere of F.E.A.R. isn't as "scary" as Doom's, in fact, it's bland. Still, the scares that the developer designed are MUCH better than those in Doom III.

I've played the first three "missions," or whatever.

So far................................... eh. I mean, there are creepy moments, andthat's good.... it looks like the dead girl from The Ring is creeping around in the middle of your slow-mo firefights.... but it almost seems like world interactivity is on par with Duke3D, when the ultimate in coolness was when you could actually move the billiard balls over the table. And I've not yet seen that kind of world interaction.

I think Half Life 2 spoiled me on realistic environments. These are kind of bland.

For some reason this game feels a lot like a console port. Not a good trait.

So far I give the game a C+, and I'll continue playing. The enemy AI troops seem half-way skilled, at least.

F.E.A.R. brought some fun weapons and effects to the table, but like you say, it wasn't innovative. Again, even the girl is a rip off.

I did enjoy fighting in office buildings, despite fighting through them for a looooooooooooooooooooong time. In fact, I think the length of time you spend fighting in the same environment was one of the things people were critical about.

Played for about 45 minutes last night. I hit a couple of those "flashback/vision" scenes... the wife kept asking me why I kep saying "oh my god... oh my god..."

Creepy.

I agree with what someone said earlier about this game being creepier than Doom 3. I was getting shivers.

I'm in that office building now, that you mentioned.

Seems like the gamr devs said, "Oh man... let's put our EXACT office cubicle layout in here, even though it will serve no purpose in the game! That would be so cool!"

Just finished it.

The game and storyline are serviceable... I got used to the creepy moments by the end, so it didn't have me shitting my pants the ENTIRE time.

I bought the FEAR Gold edition (or whatever) for $40, and it includes the original game and the expansion... which I reckon I will start playing now.

A lot of gaming for $40.
