So everyone knows that World of Warcraft exists and has 8 million subscribers or something in that area.
Apparently, Blizzard is about to announce their new MMO: Starcraft.

And all communication with South Korea has ceased...

I'm picking a starcraft RTS instead of MMO.
Korea is crazy for both but Starcraft is just huge there and blizzard decided to be cool to the fans there and announce the 2nd game at their convention.
Plus I really want another starcraft rts.

I really enjoyed the original, but at this point I'd call it one of the most overrated games ever.

I'd hit it.

I can see where some might say it is overrated.
For me it was the best RTS ever, but the new screen shots are little underwhelming.

Those screenshots are almost exactly what I was expecting.

I think I have to give that one to Grand Theft Auto.

The link way up in this thread doesn't work, but I saw video of Starcraft II in action over on Yahoo, and I wasn't too impressed.
The graphics look pretty dated compared to C&C and Supreme Commander which are the latest entries in the RTS genre.
Considering Blizzard last RTS was Warcraft III, I'm not holding my breath for a fantastic game.
The Zerg rush looked kind of cool though.
Ever notice how, outside of Diablo, Blizzard works with a really bright color palate?
I can see where some might say it is overrated.
Sooooo overrated. I enjoyed the game and thought it brought some nice elements into play, but it wasn't the best RTS ever by any stretch of the imagination.
Red Alert 2 and Total Annihilation were both far superior to Starcraft.
I hope Blizzard realizes that they kind of got a Duke Nukem situation on their hands here. The original Starcraft, for whatever reason, became this huge thing in South Korea which prompted more sales in the U.S. People kept asking Blizzard for a sequel, but they've put it off so long that expectations are way too high now.
Want proof? Look at this thread. We don't know anything about the game yet and already we're underwhelmed.

Well, shit, it's hard to release the vid game sequel to a fucking religion, man.

Exactly my point Malcolm.
How many games failed to live up to expectations or were unfairly criticized despite being good games?
Does Duke Nukem need to be the final word in FPS gameplay to get an 8 out of 10 from most reviewers?
Starcraft II needs to blow the doors off of the new C&C and Supreme Commander to have a shot of replacing Starcraft in the eyes of its fans, and it won't. It can't.

It doesn't need to be awesome to everyone... it just needs to be awesome to South Koreans.
They may be easier to please... which explains their obsession with the original game, anyway.

I won't say it can't. I think starcraft was better then the previous versions of C&C and Supreme Commander and I would guess that most starcraft fans think that too. So I have no real reason right now to think that in the end starcraft II won't be better then the new C&C or Supreme Commander.
While I am not very impressed with the game right now I will give them more then a few days to win me over.

Yes, I call them "people that never played Red Alert 2 or Total Annihilation".
Seriously though, Starcraft was miles better than any other Blizzard RTS (all three Warcrafts), the majority of the C&C series of games, Total Annihilation: Kingdoms, the Empire Earth series, and pretty much all the others, but Red Alert 2 and Total Annihilation were better games.
Yeah, it's just my opinion, but it's an opinion formed from playing all the way through all three games and their expansion packs (if they had one).
Picking one, Total Annihilation still stands as the king of all RTSs.
I think I have to give that one to Grand Theft Auto.
I said "one of the most overrated games', not "the most". Still, maybe we need to have a thread discussing the most overrated games and, more importantly, why people pick the ones they do...

This is why I disagree with you on starcraft II not living up to the hype. Even when you break down games to their genres you still have so much disagreement.
Red Alert was a lot of fun. The alternate reality was cool but I still rank it lower then starcraft. As for total annihilation I am going to be adding that to the overhyped list. There was just no fun to be had in that game.
