Seems like they got about half the movie right, but I'm not sure which half.

5/10.

"Wait! I have an ide..."

*WHACK*

I laughed myself silly at that scene.

They actually got most of it, I think (but it seems they threw in a couple of scenes from other books in the series).

The entire way through... they were cutting off jokes mid-setup, like the "the plans were in the cellar" scene... and I couldn't help but wonder how anyone who hadn't read the book could appreciate the film.

Like my wife, who thought it sucked.

And the ravenous bugblatter beast... no explanation at all.

No real explanations for the towels.

Thus, I figure they got it half right, I'm just not sure which half.

I love the series. Hated the movie.

Oh, it had some good bits, I'll admit that. And I did not expect it to be the same story again (there's no two versions that are the same, which is part of the charm). But the specific thing that I hates was all the setups without the follow-through, like the "the plans were in the cellar" bit GORDO already referenced. The movie was full of those setups without any of them being really completed.

For me it was the cinematic equivalent of stepping on that top stair that just wasn't really there, leaving you annoyed and off-balance.

I don't think they went far enough in explaining the improbability drive, which left my wife confused as to why random things would happen when they used it.

Although in the movie it's just more of a Temporary Transmogrification Drive.
