MSN has an article today about their views on the worst remakes of movies of all time.
Without counting any of the remakes this summer, what do you think are the worst ever remakes?
I happen to agree with the first one on MSN's list: Godzilla (2000).
If you want proof that Hollywood has no idea how to make films based on existing franchises, than look no further than this piece of shit.
Godzilla is a pop culture icon. He's been a villain and a hero. His original film was a message about the horrors of nuclear war/power. He was a guy in a rubber suit. At times, he knew kung fu. He has a great breath weapon based on fire and nuclear power depending on the movie. He had a son that blew smoke rings. He fought kick ass monsters like Rodan, Mecagodzilla, and King Ghidra.
The bastardized American version was simply a CGI Jurassic Park reject in New York.
Worst remake ever.

I wouldn't say "all of them". There are a few remakes that have been good.
I can think of a few movies that I'd like to see updated with newer effects, actors, and possibly better endings. *cough*Logan's Run*cough*
My biggest pet peeves about remakes are when they do it to death (For example: Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been remade approx. 3,425,682 times since it came out.) and when they fuck with the established property for no reason other than to stroke their own ego because they think they know better. (For example: Godzilla or Planet of the Apes with the Tim Burton written ending that he admits has no purpose and makes no sense. That's some good film making right there. Ugh.)

Personally, I thought Logan's Run was just fine. I even have the DVD.

I think if we made a list of remakes that weren't total dogs, it might be much shorter.

It left me wanting more, and not in a good way. I think it really fell apart for me when they get out and enter that cave. I wanted something a little more dramatic. A little more explanation of how the strings are pulled behind the scenes. The library scene after that was just boring. I understand the guy's purpose to tell the behind the scenes story, but it was too convenient. And I hated that they just walked out at the end.
Maybe its just the fact that every Sci-Fi movie from the 60s and 70s ended the same way...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
It was a very 70's movie, but there was a book I read once, "The City and the Stars," which had a similar premise. A.C. Clarke story, I believe. Anyway...
well, not sure I have an argument, actually. I thought it was a pretty good movie, and they did the best the could for it being the 1970's and full of hippies that probably smelled bad. I predict the remake will be very pretty and sterile with none of the subtext of the original.

Me too... I even whispered that to the wife when we saw it.
But yeah, I heard rumors of a LR remake a while back. Maybe it never got put into production.

Well they certainly have a good director. I don't like that he's adding his own spin though.
When did directors get the delusion that they're writers?
