I could have sworn we had a chain for this movie, but a search revealed nothing.
Based on a true event.
A busy couple finds time to get away and end up scuba diving. They are mistakenly left behind by the charter company and are left floating alone in the middle of the ocean.
The movie starts off rather boringly. The director is a rookie and the initial scenes are full of "let's try this" kinds of shots that prove to be more distracting than cool.
Eventually the big plot device takes place and we're left with two actors in the water acting out what is essentially the writer's imagination since nobody knows what actually happened to the couple in real life.
The film isn't horrible and there are truly only a few things to complain about, but its not really good either. Its just there.
Despite the hype there is NOTHING scary or freaky about this film. Its simply a survival situation.
The biggest problem I had with the film is the liberties the writer took with the actual story. The way the real life couple was left behind was FAR more interesting and believeable than how it occurs in the film.
On top of that, the male lead is a terrible actor. He gets better as the film goes on, but initially he overacts so much that you'll find yourself not caring about him.
The female lead is great because she is kind enough to show off her very nice nude form. I should note her acting is decent.
However, she is also involved in a scene that proves to me the writer has never spent a lot of time around women. The female lead is lying on a bed, completely naked and posed in a very enticing position. Her hubby comes to bed and she gets a BIG smile and turns off the light before rolling over and kissing him. At this point he implies that they should have sex and she replies that she's tired, but they can talk!!!
Most unrealistic scene ever. If you don't know why, then you're going to be stunned by real life when you finally encounter it.
The other problem is how the sharks behaved in the film. Unless I missed an episode of shark week, I'm thinking it didn't happened the way the writer thinks it did.
Overall, I can't recommend it or tell you to avoid it.
