According to this month's PCGamer, 3DRealms has reappeared on the radar.
The big news is that Prey, the long awaited "revolutionary" shooter, not only was still being worked on, but its due out soon.
The concept behind Prey is that levels won't be packed with monsters, but rather a small number of bots that act like other players and hunt you.
The BIGGER news is that they actually, you might want to sit down if you're not, saw a 20 minute demo of the very real and very soon to be completed Duke Nukem Forever.
No really.
And they said it looks like its going to kick ass.

But peeps have seen demos before.

I don't want Duke Nukem Forever to be released.
At this point I like the idea of the game better being this forever in developed piece of software more then what ever is released.
Plus there is no way the release will ever justify the development time.

It was Half Life that sunk DNF's original release.
I sez.

According to that George guy at 3DRealms, games like HL and all the new engines were the reason they kept going back to the drawing board.
However, in 2002 the entire DNF project was scrapped. They started over from scratch and built their own engine.
According the PCGamer staff that saw it they think its going to live up to the DN name. They said like DN3D, it shoud set a new standard for interactive environments.

As long as hey avoid online activation, ala Steam, I'll be happy.
Anything they produce will have attitude and strippers.

Was just reading the 3d Realms site... talking about Duke3d source code... Rise of the Triad....
it puts me of a mind to load up some Duke Nukem 3d.
Which of course I cant do because it's a DOS game and I'm running WinXP.

I've got some floppies o' DOS lying round. Soon as I get a fucking chance, I'm gonna get some pansy-ass machine just so I can have an excuse to use the Firebird & play Privateer 2 again.

Privateer 2 never worked on my old system.
But Privateer did, that game (and the entire Wing Commander series) rocked.

It looks like Turner has a market for GameTap.

I almost want it to remain in constant (re)development, like some kind of quasi-mythical Armageddon-heralding type of thing. Or its release could mark an arbitrary, but reasonable, deadline for when Cthulu wakes up or some shit. I like the last idea.

I wonder if we'll see it at E3 this year?
If we don't and it does hit stores, that means it sucks.
At this point, it has to bring a LOT to the table to not get bashed for being in development this long.

Circa '98-'99, could you imagine someone saying, "Duke Nukem Forever won't be released till Shadowbane betas, goes live, gets legit for a while, then closes. That's right, I said Duke Nuken Forever won't come out till Shadowbane comes and goes away."
