More Americans blame Bush for 9/11.

I'm no fan, but this is stupid.
Asked whether they blame the Bush administration for the attacks, 45 percent said either a "great deal" or a "moderate amount," up from 32 percent in a June 2002 CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll.

But the Clinton administration did not get off lightly either. The latest poll, conducted by Opinion Research Corporation for CNN, found that 41 percent of respondents blamed his administration a "great deal" or a "moderate amount" for the attacks.
I shudder to think what the overlap is.

How is this so bad? This is what kos said.
Not political, I know. Irwin had two small children. I'll never understand parents who put themselves in such positions of danger knowing that a misstep can leave their children without a parent.
Two things:

1) How about some sensitivity/compassion for the family? No, cuz kos is a dick.

2) If he can't understand why people would rather live a possible life of adventure and do their life's calling than sit around on their ass and make stupid comments, then's he's a retard. Should parents stay at home all day, not drive to work, cuz they might get in a car accident? Not walk along roads since a single "misstep" could kill them?

kos is a dick and a retard, according to the evidence.
Is that your answer to everything? If someone doesn't see things exactly like you do they must be a "retard"?

Nope.

But I'll call a retard a retard, like some believe they are calling a spade a spade.

Sorry.
& you can't apply classical forensic rules to a BBS discussion & assume everyone sees shit like you do.

If kos truly meant that statement, then he's extraordinarily narrow-minded at the least, & utterly ignorant of history & biology at worst.

By his thinking, there would be no police with children, no firemen that are fathers, no one in the military with a family back home. Throughout history many of the best of humanity have stepped up and put themselves in harm's way for their fellows, not in spite of having children but because of it, in order that the world they leave for them may be improved by their actions. And because when the time comes to do such things it is what good people do, and children learn by the examples of their parents.

Now, admittedly Steve Irwin may not have been doing anything along those lines, but kos seems to have generalized far past Steve and made out that all parents should tell the rest of humanity to go to hell because they've got kids to take care of. It seems either very short-sighted or indicitive of someone who would never understand the moral stance that leads one to noble self-sacrifice.

I looked at the kos thread. I don't know if he meant for that comment to apply to police, firemen, and military. I didn't see anything he said himself that indicated that belief.
However, if he did and I missed it then he is a moron. Choosing to have an occupation that puts your life at risk, like the military, for a higher purpose is something I consider noble. The people who fail to understand that usually don't believe in anything enough to put their life at risk.
Though if you have a family and engage in unnecessarily, dangerous behavior for purely personal reasons, not to provide for their family or for some principle, then to a certain degree your just selfish and self-centered. Those people place their own gratification over the love for their family.
Granted you could get struck by a meteor lying in bed but that doesn't then justify taking crazy risks for shits and giggles.

I will say this, based on personal experience, even when you put your life at risk for a noble endeavour it is hard to explain that choice to your family. They might think that you are choosing being a soldier, policeman, or fireman over them. They just love you and don't want you to die or get hurt. Your love always makes you selfish when it comes to the people you care about.

Do you start all your sentences with "&"?

Who are you to call anyone ignorant?

Where are the grammar police when you need them?

All I said is that I do not think Kos' statement was as bad as you guys are intent on making it out to be.

He did not. You didn't miss anything.
Certain people are intent on spinning his comments into something that they were not.

No, but after umpteen billion academic papers written, I feel a slight degree of leeway in my sentences.

Who are you to call anyone ignorant?

Maybe, but I find it extremely difficult to defend the following statement :
Irwin had two small children. I'll never understand parents who put themselves in such positions of danger knowing that a misstep can leave their children without a parent.

Emphasis mine. A brief look at history can blow that statement to fucking bits.

And Kos has a history of making dickhead statements about the deaths of those he personally disagrees with. "Screw them," refereing the the civilian contractors that got hung from that bridge in Fallujah years ago, for example.

The man is an unapologtic dick. Stop apologizing for him. Admit that you have a little bit of his dick inside you, while you're at it. Again, if you can't see why it is a shitty thing to say about the man, then I could never explain it to you. Some people just don't possess the capacity for empathy.

I have never read anything by Kos, other then the link you had here. It is pretty tactless to say something so soon after he died.
