and the fact that polar bears haven't actually existed for centuries.

OK, I don't have time to listen to it all right now, but what?

Basically, the recent claims that polar bears will be extinct in a few years is absurd when you examine the historical temperature record and see that temperatures have been higher for long periods of time in the past. There's at least five periods of time since they evolved into existance when they would have all been much more extinct than they will be anytime in the near future.

Thus, polar bears don't actually exist anymore. They're imaginary.

But he says it much better than I do. Watch it sometime.

More specifically, the "recent" past. He wasn't talking about millions of years ago before the modern polar bears existed, he was talking 'last ice age' time frames, iirc.

He points out that it's been published that if the temps rise 2 degrees, polar bears become extinct. But in the recent past temps have been 5 degrees warmer, so the polar bears must have all died then.

Last UN report on global warming coming.
Even a 3.6-degree rise could subject up to 2 billion people to water shortages by 2050 and threaten extinction for 20 percent to 30 percent of the world's species, the IPCC said.

While some people will go thirsty from lack of rain, millions more will suffer devastating floods; diseases will proliferate; the food supply may at first increase in some areas, but will plummet later; countries that are now poor will grow still poorer.

Thank goodness none of that stuff happens without global warming...

Is there some happy medium, like just enough global temperature rise to screw over really vulnerable countries? Like just enough to screw China?

The only thing that would screw the Chinese economy would be a spike in the cost of lead.

Just enough famine to cause mass uprisings against the gov't would be groovy.

China has potentially a billion pissed off starving folk. The country is simply too large in terms of population & geography to control if the citizenry suddenly started rebelling. They'd need to kill people on a scale so massive that they wouldn't be able to hide it.

To hide it they'd have to make sure they had a censor on the most popular internet search application, first....

The Chinese gov't couldn't start mass killings of their population w\o it somehow getting leaked to the rest of the world. There's just too many fucking people.

It doesn't matter if the world knows about it or not... nobody will ever raise a finger against China except MAYBE POSSIBLE Russia.

It's keeping their own people in the dark that is the key. An uprising in some remote starving region can't have a chain effect if Google China makes sure the rest of the Chinese people don't know about it.

I wonder if Google employees in China carry ASSAULT RIFLES and have the authority to kill in case some random Chinese person tries to find out what is being censored.

Bah. If they had enough crush-civilian-with-tank military operations going at once, they'd get shut down. Maybe. The world seems to have lost its testicles.

I'd like to think the bulk of the Chinese military would not follow orders to wipe out their own people....

but....

Peeps still got killed at Tieneman square.

Hell, stupid college kids who like to throw rocks at men with guns got killed at Kent State, for that matter.
