So, just curious: why consider switching to an unknown rifle when you can just aim your second shot down and left to compensate for a known sighting error?

That method is called "Kentucky Windage," and it is such a sloppy practice that it didn't even occur to me. Watching the festival official plink one dead center was enough to make me doubt myself, figuring I must have just screwed up the shot.
Now I think he may have gotten lucky, or used Kentucky windage.
