1. Insure everyone
2. Do it affordably.
3. Prevent health insurers from denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions

1 and 2. Want to see it then I'll believe it. 3 how in Gods name is that going to happen.

In the 1920's and 1930's Huey Long, governor of Louisiana, was pushing for a nationwide redistribution of wealth. (If I recall, I may be misremembering the actual figures) anyone with over $2 million would have their money taken by the government and redistributed. Anyone who made over $200k a year would have their excess annual income taken by the government and redistributed.

This was supposed to solve society's problems.

He announced his run for President in 1932 (?).

He was killed by one of his own bodyguards.

Sometimes I think things like that are proof of time travel.

Close:
Long proposed a new tax code which would limit personal fortunes to $5 million, annual income to $1 million (or 300 times the income of the average family), and inheritances to $5 million. The resulting funds would be used to guarantee every family a basic household grant of $5,000 and a minimum annual income of $2,000-3,000 (or one-third the average family income). Long supplemented his plan with proposals for free primary and college education, old-age pensions, veterans' benefits, federal assistance to farmers, public works projects, and limiting the work week to thirty hours.

Although, who doesn't think things like that would just lead to people treating corporations as their personal piggy bank (more than even recently) as a way to get that extra income/wealth? Would they confiscate paper wealth? What if the rich person had $10million, had $5million taken away, then lost $4 million in the stock market? Would that person get 4 of their 5 back from the government?

The "rich" are not an endless source of funding for the rest of the world, or an ever regenerating fountain from which the government can thieve.

And I've said it before, and i see evidence supporting it all the time:

When the government (the people) get involved in health care, eventually the government (the people) will start regulating and legislating life styles in order to maximize costs.

And Hillary! gets behind the whole never-tried socialism thing, too:

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070529/clinton_economy.html?.v=1

Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton outlined a broad economic vision Tuesday, saying it's time to replace an "on your own" society with one based on shared responsibility and prosperity.

The Democratic senator said what the Bush administration touts as an "ownership society" really is an "on your own" society that has widened the gap between rich and poor.

"I prefer a 'we're all in it together' society," she said. "I believe our government can once again work for all Americans. It can promote the great American tradition of opportunity for all and special privileges for none."

That means pairing growth with fairness, she said, to ensure that the middle-class succeeds in the global economy, not just corporate CEOs.

"There is no greater force for economic growth than free markets. But markets work best with rules that promote our values, protect our workers and give all people a chance to succeed," she said. "Fairness doesn't just happen. It requires the right government policies."

So it looks like we've covered the 2 main democratic socialist presidential hopefuls, here.

The gap between rich and poor will always keep widening. Not because the poor are getting poorer, but because both the poor and rich are getting richer but the rich do so at a faster rate. If the rich stopped getting richer, it would be because the economy is shit, and the poor will stop getting richer, too.

As long as the poor keep getting richer, why does anyone give a damn what the rich are doing?

When I was a kid, and complained about fairness, I generally got the line that "life wasn't fair."

What are they telling people today?

If you do that now, you're called a bad parent.

Everyone gets a trophy in little league these days and they don't even keep score. We're raising a generation of spoiled assholes who expect everything to be handed to them. Not unlike the generations of welfare recipients our politicians have managed to create.

Eventually, we're going to run out of rich people to pay the bills, and then what?

The Democrat's plan for our future.
