My gun buying history.
First shotgun from K-Mart 22 years ago. Had to fill out a form asking me if I was a drunk, drug user or insane.
2nd shotgun about 6 years ago. They made a quick call to the sheriff and gave me the gun. The poor guy next to me evidently had hit his wife once so he had to have a sheriffs signiture.
3rd gun. Bought in Michigan. No phone calls, Just walked out of Cabelas with it.
Don't see as much anything has changed. I wouldn't be opposed to having a background check done the next gun purchase. And having it cover mental health. But is that the answer?

Indeed, the problem with that is that many mental health care professionals are themselves nutty as loons. Many would diagnose the desire to own a gun as itself a sign of poor mental health.

The answer is to disband SWAT teams and kindred military units, and return to the idea of voluntary posses or militias: a speedy assembly of citizen volunteers with their own weapons. Such a body at Columbine or Virginia Tech might have saved many lifes. In other words: make the Second Amendment live up to its promise.
