Good read. Interesting points. But this doesn't seem to be limited to just this country.
Wadda mean? Other people can read this?!

But this is the only country I care about, and that extends to my countrymen.

Something I almost posted earlier, but didn't want to start a new thread about and couldn't find a good place for until now:

As a rabid anarcho-capitalist, I just want to say for the record that I don't think this is what an anarchistic society would look like at all. This is not a glimpse of an anarchy, this is a glimpse of what happens when you take people from the nanny-state and give them the chance to take consequence-free actions. In a different society these people would have grown up with different ideals or would have been disposed of by natural selection before this sort of mess could happen.

IMO.

My question is have you ever heard anyone say these things? No you just think it is so therefore it is.

Part of Gordo's post reminded me of a joke.

A religious man was eating breakfast when he noticed water pouring into his house. He went outside and was in knee-deep water, so he climbed onto the roof of his car for safety.

A few minutes later a large truck came by and the driver invited the man for a ride to higher ground.

"No thank you, sir" the man replied. "God shall save me."

Twenty minutes later the water grew higher, and large semi drove by. The driver stopped and offered the man a ride.

"No thank you, sir" the man replied. "God shall save me."

The water grew higher, so the man swam to the roof of his tool shed.

Two rednecks in a bass boat pulled up to man on the shed. They offered him a ride to safety.

"No thank you, gentelmen. God shall save me."

The waters rose above the shed, and the man swam the safety of the roof of his two-story house. But the waters grew higher and higher.

A helicopter flew over the mans house.

"We'll drop you a life line" the pilot said over his loud speaker. "Hook it around your waist and we'll pull you up."

The man waved the helicopter away. "No thank you!" he screamed. "God shall save me!"

Twenty minutes later the water was at his neck, and after another half-hour of swimming the man drowned.

Once in heaven the man approached God.

"I have a bone to pick with you, God!" the man yelled.

"Yes?" God replied.

"I trusted in you, and you let me down. I put my life in your hands and you screwed me over!"

"What are you talking about?" God replied. "I sent two trucks, a boat, and a helicopter to get you."

Yes, yes I have. Not in so many words because anyone who is mentally weak enough to be in this situation is too mentally weak to asses their weaknesses in such a way.

Remember my nephew? Well, his mother, my wife's sister in law came from just this sort of upbringing. Her parents are wellfare rats, she is a wellfare rat, and she drug my brother-in-law down with her. Before he met her, he worked a job, paid his bills, and was attending school to be an auto mechanic. She convinced him to quit his job because wellfare would pay for the birth and pay enough for them to live on.

They do nothing but complain about having no money, about how the government oppresses them because they can't afford a decent car (that'll pass inspection), get insurance for that car, or buy gas to get around. But, they take that same government's money every month to pay for their pathetic existance of sitting in front of the TV. The child may not have proper nutrition or clothes on his back, but by god, they made sure the cable was on and paid.

I won't say that everyone on wellfare is the same way, hell I hope many people use that money to cover expenses while preparing to get off of it and move up, however, the majority of wellfare recipients I have seen are not doing anything but sitting on their ass and enjoying my money.

Well, I don't recall anyone ever telling me that when I tip over sideways I will fall to the ground. Or that when I set something on fire it will be hot to the touch. I classify this with those sorts of things; simple unavoidable laws of nature that are so obvious they should not need to be explained to any rational and clear-thinking person.

However, no matter how obvious something is, people still keep falling over and getting burned every day. *sigh*

To be truthful I can not totally fault my son for his point of view. It must have been difficult growing up with his mom working 2-3 jobs at a time to raise 4 kids. I never taught them to live off the government but to support yourselves, no matter what it took.

In some ways I can not even say that my kids are better off for it, but they are all hard working, and even though they also make some of the mistakes of the young, for the most part they all work and try to better themselves through education.

You can quote me on this. "They can take everything you have but they can't take away your education."

Many many years later I don't have to work more than one job (Tho I do put in a lot of hours at this one), and try to help those less fortunate than I consider myself.

Thanks Kids

Years ago, I realized that everyone's gotta be able to stand on their own two fucking feet.

This is why I'm not a fan of the current version of rehab.

"Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime."

Does anyone honestly think our welfare system is teaching people to fish? All our current system does is keep them living as wards of the state.

To make matters worse, the system allows and actually teaches people to be lazy and to exploit the system. They don't report income, quit jobs at certain times, sabotage interviews, have more kids, etc. all to get around getting off of welfare.

Drug dealers take food stamps.

We have generations of families that have never known a life where they aren't collecting welfare. Why should they ever get off of welfare? They never have to work, they aren't prevented from buying luxuries, they get gym memberships to stay in shape, they are treated with sympathy and like they're the most important people around every four years, etc.

Do you think that maybe, just maybe, these people have a false sense of entitlement?

Look at Maurice Clarett.

So what's the fix?

How do you get people who make excuses not to work, to work?

Additionally, I don't think there's anybody in my family stupid enough to be caught in that situation.

I feel the way I do because there are tens of thousands of people in one lone city that are too stupid to come in out of the rain. I don't really think I need to provide any evidence for this that hasn't been shown on tv for the last 4 days.

Barring extreme circumstances, of course... I told the wife last night that she and I would never have ended up in the superdome, barring a car accident on out way out of town, or some such.

Or, more likely, a car jacking.

There is no fix, in a free society.

And especially not in a welfare state.

Starvation is a good motivator. I've seen some of these welfare cases that haven't missed a meal for years. The problem is they're eating for a platoon.

I don't know where I heard this but we (the US) have the world's richest poor.

Ever tried to go to a buffet on the 1st or 15th of any month?

It seems to me that poor people from other countries don't get gorgefests on a monthly basis.

Like the man says, "You just can't get there from here."

We'd need a fundamental shift in US politics. We'd need the lies and idiocies that support and perpetuate the nanny state to be refuted so soundly that there is no question left in anyone's mind that it's a road to disaster.

The current situation is not enough. It's a drop in the bucket. I suspect that, unless there is some way to make that change gradually, then what it will take is this sort of collapse of civilization on an international scale. The surviors of something like that would learn the necessary lessons.

Just wait till Social Security dies & the free cash runs out.

I mean, goddamn, if you took all the cash the average person pays into SS during their lifetime & shove it into a Roth IRA or something, you wouldn't NEED fucking SS.
