They've been after allofmp3.com for a while. Just haven't been able to stop em yet. Although, they did get PayPal to stop accepting payments for them.

A lot of folks are concerned the UN will try and create a global governing body. I'm not. It's already been done by major corporations.

Prediction: If the RIAA can't shut down allofmp3.com, they'll go after its users.

The site & its users look to be completely, totally, 100% legal. Maybe they should bitch to the Russian ministry in charge of handling international copyrighting shit for the country.

Cake researched the legality of using that site once... I think the answer he came up with is "it's legal to use in America."

Not sure how they can make online gambling on overseas sites illegal by that logic. I guess Vegas and Indian casinos have good lobbyists.

I thought AllofMP3.com was only legal for use inside Russia? IIRC, it says so right there in their TOS.

That's what it says.

It's one of those legal word definition battles now. Allofmp3 claims legality (inside Russia only) as a broadcaster of music, and pays royalties as such. The MPAA, of course, says they're selling stuff, and mis-interpreting Russian law.

One of those "we came up with the law before the Internet" situations, sounds like.

US Government did indeed have a hand in it.

Which, as far as I'm concerned, still shows pressure by Hollywood <s>bribe squads</s> lobbyists.

Best line:
Apparently, some international laws do matter to the current administration.

Especially in light of this

We will block Russia's entrance to the WTO for possibly violating international trade issues, but we will purposefully ignore WTO rulings that go against us.

I did research and found many many articles explaining the legality of the site. However, when it comes right down to it, I didn't use the site. What the articles said made sense, but I didn't know what all they were leaving out. They would site laws/rulings and say 'see this is legal'. But I bet there are many ways to support the site not being legal. Bottom line, when the RIAA comes and sues me, is anyone from any of these sites trying to convince me that it's legal going to jump to my defence? Prolly not.

I applied the "If it's too good to be true, it probably is" rule and opted out.

Heh. I used the "If it's russian, avoid it" rule.

The Pirate Bay to occupy Sealand!

No shit? Really?

That's perfect! The validity of Sealand has been mostly ignored officially, because it's a can of worms no country wanted to investigate too closely. But with The Pirate Bay there they can't really ignore it anymore, so we should see some interesting international law cases coming out of this one.

This is going to be fun.

I can see the RIAA covertly hiring Greenpeace to ram their ship into the platform, and sink it.
