I was just doing some reading on the history of ethnic tolerance in different world societies, and came across this gem:
Take any healthy, fit 18 year old boy or girl from any country on earth. Dress them in any American military uniform and stand them on the steps of the White House. Nobody walking by will even blink. We just assume they must be "one of us."

These newcomers worship a different God and practice a faith historically hostile to Christianity.

& historically speaking, Christianity hasn't liked Islam. Buchanan has about as much grasp on reality as the RIAA & MPAA have on PR.

I've decided that I no longer care when people imply that "they" still owe "us" for something that happened a thousand years ago.

Eh. I'm not thrilled with how things are currently going in the world, but I'm not ready to call an end to civilization just yet.

When the current cycle of political correctness ends, and believe me, it is going to end, the next cycle will be a logical "snap back" to the other end of the spectrum.

With a fundamentalist tide rising on both sides, I wonder just how long it'll be before the next Holy War breaks out into WWIII?

The only folks who'd listen to that would be fundamentalist, hard-right wing Christians & Muslims. I don't think they've enough political or financial power to pull off anything resembling the medieval-style crusades of jihads. In fact, I say we get all the fundie Christians & fundie Muslims together in a mega-city or something. Last man standing's religion wins. Then we shoot him.

This is very interesting.

Most on this board will agree that fundamentalist Muslims preaching the distruction of all other lifestyles are bad. Often times they become terrorist. Now we have a fundamentalist Christian espousing the same intolerance and who has called for the assaination of a national leader. Before someone says Christian fundamentalist aren't violent, check out all the abortion clinics bombed by these fanatics.

Seems to me that the only thing keeping Christians from being suicide bombers is the cardinal sin of suicide.

I can definitely see crusades and jihads occurring. The only thing that prevents it now is geographic separation.

I do like the idea of a slug fest with the last man standing getting shot.

Just read this line in a Jack London story:

"Life's a game - and men are the gamblers. They'll bet their pile on a one in a thousand chance, but take away that chance, and they won't play."

How do you take away that chance and get peeps to stop killing each other over matters of god?

The only real difference I see between the fundamentalist Muslims and the fundamentalist Christians is that, on average, the Muslims have more poverty and thus more open desperation. If their socioeconomic positions were reversed, I bet we'd see the same sort of thing coming from the other side.

Well, with less of the suiciding, as the fundamentalist Christians would tend to prefer to do unto others without doing unto themselves in the process. But just as much of the blowing stuff/people up, I bet.

Jesus believes in remote detonators, which are an offense unto Allah apparently.

The biggest difference is that the rank and file preachers and priests aren't calling for the violvence the way Muslim clerics are.

People have done very vile things in the name of Christianity, I'm not denying. But to compare the two in mordern days shows a biggotry of religion and a lack of context. When whats-his-face talked about the world being better off if the commie was assassinated he was rightly called on it. When muslim clerics do it, people say we have to understand why they feel that way.

Some Christian funamentalists are violent, but it's not the church itself that's promoting the violence (except in the case of cults like Jonestown).

That's not about Christian and Muslim, though, that's about PC liberals that hate America.

And the suicidal multiculturism that drives that particular engine.

But to compare the two in mordern days ...
Once the standard of living in Middle Eastern and southeast Asian countries goes up, I'll say the majority of Muslims live in modern times. At the moment, they live in the fucking Dark Ages.

Chirac admits there "may be a problem."

But look at this little gem hidden in the article :

The government has taken a tough stance on rioters, with Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy saying local authorities were instructed to deport foreigners convicted of involvement.

The even-handed, level-headed, self-righteous, legend-in-their-own-mind French are DEPORTING foreigners? Say it ain't so.
