4. Also, despite my great knowledge of armaments and ballistics when I get back, it will be illegal for me to own or buy myself a handgun until I am old enough to get get drunk with it.

You can't buy a handgun until you're 21?

Just making sure it wasn't me, cuz I've been the Memphis. (Spent a whole freakin' summer there, actaully)

1. ...Hippy crap.

I thought the same thing when my wife was preggers. Lots o' crap. Lots o' ways to get money from people willing to try anything if it might help their baby.

2. So why are there now laws requiring kids to wear bicycle helmets?

I sort of like this. Now every kid is equally dorky. I'm also for school uniforms. I'm for all that stuff now that it doesn't affect me. I guess I'm part Democrat.

3. ...guns...

You fear what you don't know, and most city folk haven't even touched a gun before. Plus, pretty much every gun weilder in Hollywood is either a cop or a criminal. If you have a gun on a TV show or movie, and you're not a trained law-enforcement official (or military), then chances are you'll use that gun for evil.

4. Why will the government give me a rifle at 18 years of age and send me off into harm's way, but they won't let me purchase a beer when I get back?

That's state government law. In Alaska, Colorado, Georgia, etc. you can drink if given to you by a parent/guardian/spouse.
What right does a parent have over their 18-20 year old kid other than the ability to give them alcohol?

5. Are turn signals really all that hard to use?

Yeah! Cops need to crack down on that. Also on cars pulling into traffic at bad times, driving really slow, then pulling out of traffic a block or two later. Argh!

7. How can someone who has never eaten Memphis barbecue tell me I'm wrong...

Because you are wrong.

9. If environmentalists want to reduce pollutants, why do they oppose nuclear power plants and storing nuclear waste under a mountain in a desert in Nevada?

Because the aura from that mountain is the source of power for the hippie crap they try to sell mothers!

3 times in the past 2 weeks someone has turned left in front of me in traffic.

This wouldnt bother me, except that each time the person was in the right-most of THREE lanes.

On #2... when my little sister was in collage to be an engineer she studied bicycle helmets. Of the top 10 being sold (keep in mind this was 10 years ago or so) only one model decreased your chances of a head injury more than it increased your chances of a neck injury.

In other words, you were more likely to sustain a neck injury wearing the helmet than you would be to sustain a head injury not wearing a helmet.

People are reactionary. I remember an article I read long ago (going on about 20 years now) of a community that had a school bus crash where one or two students died. There was a huge cry to add seatbelts to busses. This guy had a problem with this because no one was able to site any studies that showed that seatbelts actually made school busses safer.

I actually did have a head injury as a child on my bicycle. I went over the handle-bars and landed head first on concrete. I suffered a mild concussion, although I never told my parents. My vision went blurry and everything. Honestly, though, I find forcing helmets on bikes excessive. Maybe for children, but an adult (as with seat-belts to me) has the right to risk his/her life if they want. You will not catch me riding a bike with a helmet....period.

I love variety.

Today someone turned right from the left-most of the 3 lanes.
